Orienteering 28:00 [3]

Training in the neighborhood. It was essentially a circle with two cross trails. We then ran a ski-o course with left-right decisions. Before we went out, dad determined which controls went where. It was a lot of fun!

Running 32:00 [3]

around the blook. Took it easy to avoid 3 hard days in a row especially since tomorrow is intervals.

Running 29:00 [3] 4.0 mi (7:15 / mi)

Run with Ethan. We moved along pretty well. We stopped for a rest in the middle for 2:30 so we both could stretch. We ran a pretty good pace back too. 15:30 and all uphill...

Orienteering 1:06:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:15 / km)

Course at some place in NY. On my way to the first control, something happened that's never happened to me before. I was running through the woods and all the sudden, there was a huge reentrant infront of me, except it wasn't on the map. I was quite puzzled as I was sure I was in the right location... I looked down the reentrant to see if there was any definite feature that would clue me in. Seeing nothing, I decided to just go around. I did so, saw some other features that matched up, then looked back at the reentrant, except it wasn't a reentrant. Water in the marsh that was supposed to be there had risen to the point of being a large puddle. On the other side, the light had hit it in such a way that the reflection of the trees gave the appearance of a reentrant.

I finished the rest of the course almost without incident. While running to number 12 or 13, I was flying down a trail. There was a family of four ahead coming towards me. One of the little children, about 4 or 5, was walking with a stick. As I was running down the trail (quite quickly) I noticed he made eye contact with me, then I knew I was in for it. As I got close, the small innocent child raised his stick trying to skeywer me. I saw it coming, though (he wasn't quick about it) and so I dodged gracefully to the side, then continued on laughing. I have never been attacked by another person while on a course, though...

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Middle/fog-o. Bad compass... didn't do so hot.
1 PM

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Relocation exercise with dad. He'd take the maps and run, with me in tow. He'd then stop, I'd have to find myself, then run to the control.
5 PM

Orienteering 38:00 [3]

Yale sprint. Finally got to do it. It was a little more difficult for me as it was commencement weekend so there were a lot of people walking around and I had to pretend like I knew what I was doing for the security people... still, though, I think I managed to anger quite a few finely dressed individuals.
