US S/M/L Champs 2011. Long Distance. Middlesex Fells, Stoneham, MA, USA.
Was doing well until a big mistake on 7. Took the wrong path and circled around in an area about 100m southeast of the control. Returned to the main trail, reattacked, and missed control again. Finally realized contour line was a depression, not a knoll, and found the control. Slight trouble with 10 and 12, and lost a few minutes on each. Overall, a decent result. Placed 5/8 on F55.

Brown Long - Splits

US S/M/L Champs 2011. Middle Distance. Lynn Woods, Lynn, MA, USA.
Would have had a decent result, except for the absolute disaster on control #2. Attacked directly from #1, but veered right and missed the control. Baled out to the trail 3 (!) times. Kept going around in circles, too far east/north, and never got quite close enough to see others entering/exiting the control. Lost nearly 27 minutes! Have not had an experience like that for years. From 5>6 headed south toward rock wall but veered right again, and ended up on the ridge west of the control. Took me a few minutes to figure out where I was and to get over to the correct ridge and punch the control. Fine for the rest of the course. Finished 4/9 on F55.

US S/M/L Champs 2011. Sprint at Franklin Park. Boston USA. A number of small, dumb mistakes, and a big mistake on leg 10>11. Placed 2/5 in F55 -- the top guns had not yet arrived in Boston on Friday. Wasn't eligible for a medal, but received a map-puzzle as a prize.
