Orienteering race 53:35 [4]

DVOA French Creek. Great event, great weather. Pretty satisfied with my run, except for goof on #9. Enjoyed using compass and contouring around the mountain. Things went according to plan until #7. I had planned to run fast SW and slightly downhill to the big reentrant, then relocate using the rocks and terrain and work my way up to the control. I drifted too far west and hit #4, but just headed due S from there. Ran across first charcoal platform and continued southerly, but got suckered by the control on the nearby cairn. Easy to relocate though.

On #9, I crossed over the ridge then headed due east intending to aim off and hit the trail leading to the control. I found the green patches distracting and worried I was drifting too far to the right so I corrected to the left. Too bad, because I was likely just about to hit the trail. I ran around a green patch and hit the big trail, relocating on a ditch with a control and then headed back to my control. Lost about 3 in. Otherwise, I'm satisfied. Pushed hard, tired and sore afterward. Happy to have ended up in first.

Running 45:52 [3]

Ran Gov Chittenden Rd. from Catamount to Trail sign by Route 2 and back. Counted 20 horses and 1 farrier today. I wonder where the cows are. Temps in high 40s, breezy, occasional pitting rain, but otherwise, good conditions.
