Running 8:00 [1]

Warm-up on road before brief model event controls.

Orienteering 30:00 [2]

Model event with Fran - 5 controls. Very useful. Woods not as ugly as advertised. Trails very clear. Contous more readable than expected.

Orienteering race 1:18:36 [4]

Much stronger orienteering than last weekend - on subtler terrain. Kept in map contact even on 'bland' legs. Green X.
S->1: Bearing from Start triangle. Got to white pine saplings too 'early'. Pace count kept me going. Saw control - bit more in green than edge of white.
2: Trail bend, crossed stream, root stocks made for slow going. Read small knolls well as I veered from swamp. Left of red-line faster?
3: Hit big rocks well. Got on topk turned. Bit too cautious at end of leg.
4: Contoured to trail but no firm plan for leaving trail. Lost time: cautious and too far on trail. Did read open, swamp, stream well to correct. Crossed stream to open woods. -2:30
5: No firm plan for last third cost time. Bearing to big boulders, crossed marshy ground and 'hoped'. Didn't work. Saw runner on trail got me to trail - relocated - easy attack. -2:30 Reading reentrants or back-dooring control via trail seem better.
6: To trail and corner to avoid blotchy green to big rock wall. Circled left, yes.
7: Redline to rocks - climbed up - spur very clear.
8: Beeline through rocks, picked up reentrant. But slow pace - -0:30
9: Saw no firm approach. Cross stream to trail to stone wall. Pace count through green to boad reentrant. Pace count along plateau. Saw lots of other orienteers - leaving control or lost? Lost. 50 more paces; 'nice knoll' on next spur - yes, mine! Hesitant at end -1:00?
10: Red-line, read rocks well. Could have run harder,
11: Redlineand pace count, picked up scattered rocks near circle. Clean to subtle feature
12: To trail then repeated 3->4 leg cleanly. Bearing uphill from 4: missed boulder, then 4.5mroot-stock came up fast. Best leg.
13&F: Out to road - niece downhill on-road run

Middle of M65 - solid result.
Legs felt good except for acute pain in left knee for 2 minutes. Then minor twist of right knee - ouch. Okay later.

Tomorrow - "Enter the boulder fields" - very intimidating!
