Aus Relay Champs at Rock Oyster.
Simon made me decide the mens relay teams for the Arrows yesterday, which was a difficult decision, but i think it was the right one on the day. No 1 team was Lachlan, Ben, Simon and no 2 team Kerrin, Reuben, Me.
Ankle felt pretty bad yesterday after running the sprint on friday. so i was glad i didnt run. It did feel better this morning, but after seeing the wombat holes and rocks everywhere on the ground and sometimes hidden in long grass, i was unsure about running. I taped both my ankles, took a couple of panadol and got ready, then started warming up and it felt fine, even though my muscles were tight and sore. Lachlan came back and told me i shouldnt run because it would be bad for my ankle, then just as i was about to go to the start, Mel told me to sit down and not run for the same reason. I chose to ignore this and go out anyway and take it easy.
About 2 minutes in to the course i realised that i made the wrong decision by putting my orthitics into my shoes, as they made my arches on my feet very painful. I forgot about this after a while (or just chose to ignore it). Then i rolled my good ankle a couple of times on the way to the first control, but no damage was done due to the tape. I thought it was going to be a bad day, but after that it was pretty good. I took the safe options where there was one and went around instead of going up and down. Got passed by a WA guy at 4, but couldnt keep up with him. My fitness was very lacking, and i walked up a lot of hills. I caught Richard Hyslop (ACT junior, but running seniors) at 8 where i took a gel. He started walking up the hill coming out of the control, so i told him to run and he did and kept up with me for a while. Was by myself at the specator control and thought under 60 was a posibility. Pretty stuffed going up the hill coming out of the spectator and walked when i was out of view. Look behind at 12 and Richard was there again, then Nick Andrewartha apeared before me, so i put a bit more effort in. Nick told me he didnt want a sprint finish, so let me past, then i said the guy behind was a junior running seniors, so he decided to try a bit harder. Ran well for the last few and was able to get back about a minute before Nick.
Pretty happy with the run and getting under 60, which i wanted to do, but didnt think was possible. Could hardly walk after i got back, as my arches were extremely painful. Ankle was fine straight after, but a few hours later is a bit sore.
