MTB 15:00 [3]
slept:6.0 shoes: Yeti ASR

I was really looking forward to riding this morning. Started out feeling strong and enthusiastic. Then I hit a rock which broke my pedal. For a while it seemed ok, I couldn't clip in but figured I could still balance on that foot and push a bit, so i let the others ride up the WNM trail and followed. It lasted about 3min. My foot kept slipping off and when I did manage to pedal, the pedal fell off- turned out it was all bent and when i pedalled it just unscrewed itself. Stupid thing. Called John who rode all the way back down :-) and made a heap of really bad jokes while I scowled at him. "don't get cranky" he said, "just put the pedal to the metal" Then something about links. Bah.

MTB intervals (single-legged reps) 30:00 intensity: (15:00 @2) + (15:00 @4)
shoes: Yeti ASR

Made my sorry way back to the car. Riding with one leg is really hard, especially uphill in soft gravel. It ended up being a series of frantic intervals with the other leg swinging out the side, with bits of walking in between.
When I got back to the car there were some other guys about to ride who were very sympathetic. "At least the Yeti still has one big foot! Hur hur hur"
Bah.

Orienteering (H4 Gooseberry Hill) 52:00 [2] *** 4.0 km (13:00 / km)
spiked:7/11c

So I went to Gooseberry Hill instead, where I got some strange looks for doing the course in denim shorts and a singlet, and ripped my legs to shreds. I enjoyed pottering around - just walked it, but it was really prickly, and a bit more M than H which took the fun away a bit. Got some kind of nav benefit out of it by not using a compass. Fortunately I had my very expensive Keen trail-running shoes with me, so I didn't have to run in bike shoes. They are great for running on trails which do not have any rocks or gravel, so long as you don't care about your feet.
Drove back to Pickering Brook again where I heard a lot of tales of carnage which made me a little bit glad I had not been riding but not that glad.
Bah.

MTB (control putting-out) 30:00 [2]
slept:7.0 shoes: Yeti ASR

MTBO race (nav dash city beach) 15:32 [3] 3.5 km (4:26 / km)
shoes: Yeti ASR

I had a theory that it wouldn't be much quicker on a bike, which was right! Too much stopping and starting and bike manoeuvring. I did have to stop once to stick a crumpler logo to a control, and made one overshoot - didn't use the map, I figured after just having put the controls out it would be easy, but apparently not!

Run warm up/down 35:00 [2]
slept:7.0 shoes: Feet

Extra long warmup and stretch since I was early. Then a warmup with the group, run throughs, short cooldown at the end.

Run intervals 18:00 intensity: (6:00 @2) + (12:00 @4)
shoes: Metallic blue Asics

3 sets of 6 x 40/20s.
I was a bit flat from yesterday's run, but not sore this week.

Run (dog jog) 20:00 [2]
slept:6.0 shoes: Retro green Asics

I have been very slow to get moving this morning but the dog is all bounce!

Run long (Kings Park) 2:01:00 [3] 21.2 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: Metallic blue Asics

Woohoo I cracked two hours :-)
And remembered a GPS for the first time.
Did 25min on my own then met Wil, then Jess, then dropped off Jess, then accidentally found Andre, which motivated us for the last bit.

Windtrainer race (16k TT) 26:43 [5] 16.0 km (1:40 / km)
slept:7.5

Research study part 2! Bit slower today, I suspect because of having not trained for a month and also all the stupid running, which is bad for me. Makes my legs hurt.

Windtrainer race (VO@ max test) 21:00 intensity: (5:00 @1) + (5:00 @2) + (5:00 @3) + (5:00 @4) + (1:00 @5)

Again, slightly worse than last time - I only made it 1min into the 300W bit instead of 2min30 last time. More due to burning leg muscles than being VO2maxed.

Windtrainer warm up/down 30:00 [2]

Thankfully this time he let me do them both on one day, with an hour in between during which i fell asleep in the sun next to a textbook. Hope it doesn't change the results but I didn't feel any more sore after the TT than I did before it.

Run (mapping) 35:00 [2]

Checking control sites at City Beach. Good for my rogaine training to get some more sand running in, but it is difficult to tell which sand drift is which, so I'm not sure if the map is right. Also I had to map some seagulls so that there would be enough features to put controls on. I have promised them a fish if they come back on Saturday.

Run warm up/down 15:30 [2]
shoes: Retro green Asics

Run intervals 24:30 intensity: (10:30 @2) + (14:00 @4)
shoes: Retro green Asics

Sandy hilly loop from the drain at Floreat.
7 x 2min hard 90sec easy
Without meaning to say 'i told you so stevej' :-) i was so sore and stiff on the warmup that I thought I wouldn't be able to run. As soon as we hit soft sand it felt great and i enjoyed the session. Running back up the hill to the shops at the end hurt, as usual. Especially demoralising to see John keeping up despite him hiking and me running.

Run (commute) 1:00:40 [3] 11.3 km (5:22 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: Metallic blue Asics

It was a lovely morning but it felt so hard running. It turned out that I was running faster than usual, which is probably why it felt so hard. 1/24 of a rogaine...
