Paddle race (Port to City Beach) 1:22:00 [4] 10.6 km (7:44 / km)
shoes: Fenn XT

First leg of the Freo to Mindarie paddle relay. I was pretty happy with doing the first leg because i had expected crazy southerlies and huge swell, but it turned out i just got the flat awful leg with the massive headwind. But at least it wasn't too hot, it must've been much harder later on.
We didn't come last, which is Good :)
Martin stayed on his boat which is also Good, and John paddled really well considering how much he complained before the start!
Goes down in history for the longest time spent faffing around in the relentless sun per actual minute of exercising. Didn't make it home til after 4, not bad for less than 90min of paddling.

Orienteering (malmalling) 2:00:00 [3] 9.0 km (13:20 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: fluoro yellow trabucos

Trabucos aren't so fluoro now :)
John set up a practice course for Teemu so a few of us joined in. Andre and I pottered around together, making sure we didn't go too fast because we were collecting the tapes. Yes, that is what it was.
I was pretty crap today, getting better at picking attackpoints and finding them, but not so good at finding the control afterwards. Andre was navigating very well, but unfortunately couldn't find the tapes. I am good at spotting tapes, which is not at all useful in a real event.
Took a bit longer than planned and it was pretty hot by the end.

MTB (forsythes mill) 40:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Yeti ASR

Cruised around one lap and then lost interest so I did an altruistic ice cream run while Danger and John did another lap. On the way to the servo i heard a bang and saw lots of little bits of paper fluttering in the rear view mirror. Odd, i thought, maybe John left something on top of the car? Then an alarm bell rang so i pulled over, realised it was probably my wallet and ran back to get it. Luckily there were no cars, although as i got closer 2 appeared and ran over it. Followed by a road train with about 35 wheels. I was a bit worried by now, about whether my credit card would still be usable but luckily it was just a bit bent (although my driver's licence is in 4 pieces!), so i could still get john his ice cream and i didn't get in trouble.

Swim 15:00 [3] 0.6 km (25:00 / km)
shoes: Feet

Hung around at the pool to babysit so that Jess could swim. I had a brief swim too, but I feel like a bit of a fraud taking stroke correction which others could make more use of than me. Coach says I need to fix my right arm and also glide more instead of swimming with a cycling cadence. Useful advice which i shall keep in mind when i next go swimming in 2011.

Note

Note to self: never swim and orienteer on the same day, the colours clash horribly.

Roadie (commute) 32:00 [3] 13.0 km (2:28 / km)
slept:7.5 shoes: Mongoose Roadie

Pushed a bit harder today. Had a whole series of stupid pedestrians (who must have thought I was tRicky) step out in front of me. One of them was about 12 and i was going 40kph so i had to make a sudden call whether it was better to maim the 12 year old, or swerve in front of a car, or just slam on the brakes hard and hope. In the end slamming on the brakes allowed me to swerve behind the car instead, shout at the kid and then continue on my merry (slightly shaken) way. Stupid pedestrians.

Strength/Core (HSA boot camp) 45:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (10:00 @4) + (5:00 @5)
shoes: Brooks trail shoes

Lunchtime boot camp was heaps better today- 6 of us turned up and we did a lot of sprints and cardio stuff and core stuff on the oval. Good fun, and hard work too. Especially for my arms, who are now all floppy and not looking forward to more tonight.

Roadie (commute) 33:30 [3] 14.0 km (2:24 / km)
shoes: Mongoose Roadie

To the beach, normal ride with one significant hill sprint precipitated by a fat roadie.

Run (beach) 20:00 [4]
shoes: Feet

Running bits in the beach session. Not REALLY a 4 but definitely tried harder than usual and i usually call it a 3.

Strength/Core (beach) 25:00 [3]
shoes: Feet

Usual stuff. Really good fun tonight for some reason. Pretty tired though - muscles feeling the lunchtime stuff.

Roadie (commute) 48:00 [2]
slept:8.0 shoes: Mongoose Roadie

Faster than yesterday! Perhaps my recovery is now complete. Might reattach the bike computer or even (!) ride over the top of a hill instead of around, one day soon.

Roadie (commte) 49:00 [2]
slept:6.0 shoes: Mongoose Roadie

Run (half-long) 49:00 [3] 8.3 km (5:54 / km)
shoes: fluoro yellow trabucos

With John and his "running group" (ie, the dog). I was feeling tired so we did the hilly terrain loop, then Reabold hill, then i started complaining (more) so we pottered home. John continued on his second half of the run and i cheerfully didn't join him.
Amazingly 3 or 4 weeks without running, rather than making me faster and bouncier as you would expect, has left me feeling heavy and unlike a runner. Amazing.
