Orienteering race (Australian Sprint Champs) 22:35 [3] 3.4 km (6:39 / km)

Fun to have a run on a well-set course on a great new map, but it very much reminded me how slow I am. Wouldn't have mattered if I had a clean run but I was distracted and generally messy in the circles, and also the bits outside the circle. Great for the mapper to open an ice-cream shop on the map for us too.

Note

It hardly seems worth logging all my easter runs now, except to say many thanks to Juffy for organising Sledge, which made my unfit pootling a lot of fun, and thanks to all the Easter volunteers for such a great weekend.

I started off messy (partly distracted by hearing my screaming teething child throughout most of the course at the prologue) but gradually got my head around orienteering again and was not getting so stupidly distracted by men in bright boxers by the last day. Except Ivan, who really went out of his way to keep turning up and distracting me no matter how hard I tried to lose him.

Loved the map, wow :-)

Now for yet another week without bike riding, but once the move is out of the way and the next couple of weekends of orienteering and (oh dear) AR, I am planning to start getting fit properly. All the easter carnival excitement has reminded me how much I want to make the team for Hungary next year!

Orienteering race (Hill Park Dale H4) 59:00 [3] 4.0 km (14:45 / km)

Good fun course on a lovely map. Started off really badly, got gradually slightly better as I started to work out that this was NOT a rogaine, or a metrO event, and rogaine and metrO nav techniques (or lack thereof) were not going to get me far. By the second last control I was getting a bit confident so I royally messed up the last one to knock myself down to size. Then for good measure I didn't look at the map to see where the finish was, but instead did a lap of the string course. Unfortunately it had a different finish to the H4, but soon after I found John warming up and he pointed me to the real finish.

It seems that the way to orienteer is to have a plan for the leg, with a solid attackpoint, stay in contact with the map, slow down and read the detail in the circle, read the control descriptions, keep the map oriented. Who'd have thought it?

Orienteering (HPD Sprint) 30:00 [3]

Thanks Craig for setting this one up.
Went out again to see if I was any better after calibrating my O brain on the H4. I was, which was encouraging, although the nice big scale probably helped. Pulled out at 10 so John could get to work. Good fun.

Rogaining is Fun (Family PootleGaine) 3:00:00 [1]

I found rogaine on my activities list, down the bottom with squash and shopping.
Really enjoyed pottering around with a sleeping T2 strapped on as a random accessory - wonder if this stuff actually sinks in? On the way home he disproved our theory that he will only scream for max 20min in the car before falling asleep. Noooo he has his dads volume and mums stamina.
Passed out on impact with bed at home, I'm about to do the same.
Wonder if juffy and tricky survived - tough day to be racing!

Run intervals 34:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (14:00 @4)
shoes: Feet

Warmup, drills, run throughs.
2x800 and 2x600/200 with a 30sec rest. 2min30 recoveries. Meant to make each one faster and I did until my legs disappeared in the last one.
3.33 3.29 3.27 3.32

Note

Took T2 to the scout park for old times' sake. He wasn't too keen on chasing a tennis ball, and just lay on the grass chewing on stuff, but I guess that was what the dog mostly did anyway. He likes being outside, obviously a born orienteer!

Windtrainer intervals (Spin bike) 1:00:00 intensity: (23:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (21:00 @4) + (6:00 @5)

Warmup, cooldown
SCR pyramid
3 sets of 1 2 3 2 1 with 1min recoveries.

Must remember to tell the TTAC manager that he needs to get the learn to swim girls a trolley - would save at least 3 hours of time since they would not need to take turns carrying pool noodles and kickboards one at a time from the shed.

Roadie 1:00:00 [3]

Head wind in all directions today although some more than others. Did 5 hard km intervals on the service rd then down wch, hard into the wind along the rwy to lemnos then meandered home the scenic way.
2 PM

Orienteering (ECU Nav Dash) 25:00 [3]

Messy, but my slow speed is well suited to map reading so it could've been worse!

Friday Apr 8, 2011 #

5 PM

Run intervals 35:00 [3] 5.5 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Feet

Warm up, cool down, running in circles saving John and his orange cones from sudden sprinklers.

3x1km with lots of recovery. Meant to be 20sec faster each time so I took the first one reasonably easy then did the 2nd one harder and definitely felt faster, third pretty solidly. Didn't see the times til after: 4.58 4.59 (faster, ha) 4.31

Happy to a) actually finish a session and b) be not too awfully embarrassed by my times.

Caitlin ran well and T2 behaved impeccably.

Roadie 1:40:00 [3]

Wow, rain! What a brilliant morning for a ride! I almost didn't get out there but luckily Dolf and Danger waited for me.

Not sure about the riding time - I was out of the house for more than 2 hours but Dolf insisted on stopping in Mosman Park to give me a tyre-changing masterclass. Thanks Dolf, it is a useful skill for a girl to learn, just in case one day there is no one there to help me :-)

Sort of rode the recovery loop backwards. Having a 20min break just before riding up Devil's Elbow was interesting. Legs feel like they've done something now, hooray!

Windtrainer intervals 1:05:00 intensity: (25:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (20:00 @4) + (10:00 @5)

SCR pyramid warmup
10 x (2 hard 1 spin 2 easy)
Short cool down

Put the spin bike outside today so I could look at the trees and pretend I was actually moving.

John gave me a motivational picture of myself when I was fit to look at, then ruined it with another one from his classic 'things not to say to a recently pregnant woman' series: "you've got much more of an hourglass figure than you did back then, must be because your waist is smaller, hurhur *snigger* ".

Swim 1 [3]

Oops, that's right, I didn't end up swimming, but the coffee was nice :-)
6 PM

Run 20:00 [3]

Nice run with my sister thanks to altruistic John. Noone else turned up so he said he'd mind the baby. Very thoughtful, and he still didnt run even after jess offered to hold the baby and still didn't run 40min after he'd given me the baby... Very kind. Anyone would think he just didn't want to run...
Instead he made Jasper cry, not 20sec after I said to jess "it's just not Friday until John has made Jasper cry" and the at least twice more for good measure.
Kate and rose also made Jasper cry, and Michael just did complex logarithmic equations in his head, or something.

Oh, and I did some running! Warm up, cool down, run throughs, 800m in 3.23 then 800m with a 30sec holiday at the 600m mark in 3.12
It felt awfully slow and Carolyn beat me, but that's nothing to be ashamed of since she was the fastest year 1 in Newman in her day.
