Hiking 4:00:00 [3] 8.0 mi (30:00 / mi) +450m 25:32 / mi
shoes: Saucony Peregine 2

Hiking with Sam and Presto up Stopple Point! We decided to finally head out to hike up our first mountain in NY. Trail reports suggested that the snow in the Catskills was basically melted, so we headed there. The road to the trailhead was still closed, so we had to park about a mile away from the start and hike in on the roads, but we did get to see North/South Lake, which was nice. The trail up to Artist's Rock had a decent number of people on it, but not so many that we felt uncomfortable. The view from Artist's Rock across the Hudson Valley was quite good, and we met an IG on the cliff, which was fun. Presto was highly intrigued! We also found a tick on Presto, which was less fun. I guess we really are back on the east coast...

The trail was fairly rugged, but my ankle was feeling decent, so we continued on up. We made it to Badman's Cave, which has kind of a ridiculous name, and then headed on up to North Point, which had some great views. Then it was just a flattish 1.7 miles over to Stopple Point. There was a tiny rock outcropping at Stopple Point that we sat on for a snack before heading back the way we came to North Point.

We took the other way down from North Point, but my ankle was much less happy with going downhill than it had been going uphill. Luckily, we were able to take a trail that went straight back to the car, rather than the trailhead, which made for a bit flatter hike back to the car. Yay for mountains!

Stretching back home.

Note

Ankle feels good today! I guess being able to run for 2.5 minutes is better than nothing...

Running 2:30 [3]

Running with Presto in the snow! I decided to try running 1 minute on 1 minute off for as much of Presto's normal walk as I felt comfortable. The good news was that my ankle was feeling totally good again today and I felt like this was a reasonable thing to do. The bad news was that I felt the tiniest twinge from my ankle after 2.5 minutes and decided to stop. I guess I'll see how this feels tomorrow. Also, I know that I've lived in a place basically devoid of weather for the past 7 years, but it really seems like we've been having a lot of winter this spring. I can't say I recall the weather having such a dedicated commitment to snow in late April in Boston!

Biking 43:00 [3]

Biking in place! And for some actually exercise...

Strength 20:00 [3]

Normal abs and all the ankle PT exercises. I decided to skip all the plyometrics tonight since I'd already done some bouncing on the ankle with the "run".

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. My calf is still tighter than I'd like, but not as tight as Tuesday.

Note

My ankle is a bit sore today. Not hurting as badly as a few weeks ago, but just some slight soreness while walking barefoot. No pain in shoes, no pain on stairs, etc. I'm not entirely sure what to think about this.

Strength 15:00 [3]

Ankle PT exercises. I haven't been as good as I should be about doing these. My ankle felt good for everything including single-leg hops, so I clearly didn't set myself back by too much.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Calf stretches and then lots of rolling out my right calf. My ankle does feel quite a bit better now.

Running 7:15 [3] 0.7 mi (10:21 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 24

Running with Presto! I decided to actually go out with the intention of running in running clothes, etc. This seemed super successful. Both Presto and I were very happy to be out on a run. I was only going to run for 5 minutes and then walk the rest of Presto's normal walk, but it was cold and my ankle felt completely normal, so I ran for 5 minutes, walked for 5 minutes, and then ran for the another 2 minutes to get home. Presto was so excited to be running together again and did a bit of frolicking :-).

Biking 43:00 [3]

Biking in place! And more completely normal-feeling exercise.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. My right calf (injured ankle) was particularly tight tonight, but otherwise, things felt pretty normal.

Hiking 1:00:00 [3] 4.5 mi (13:20 / mi) +200m 11:43 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 24

Hiking with Sam, Darae, and Presto at Buttermilk Falls State Park! Darae was in town for work, so we met up for a quick hike before she had to fly home. Great to see her and to get outside on a nice day. I'm glad we have such nice parks so close to home!

Biking 1:40:00 [3] 15.8 mi (6:20 / mi) +460m 5:48 / mi

Biking up Mt. Pleasant with Sam! We hadn't gotten quite enough exercise in the morning, and it really was a nice day out, so we headed back out after lunch. I'm so glad we did! We even saw a fisher out there (the furry, weaselly kind)!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.
