Hiking 5:41:46 [3] 10.9 mi (31:21 / mi) +752m 25:49 / mi
shoes: Mizuno Ascend 2

Seven peaks in one hike! For our last full day in Acadia, SGB, Presto, and I decided to try to get to as many of the peaks we had yet to go to. It stopped raining just before we headed out and proceeded to get nicer and sunnier as the day went on. We managed to get up and over: Bald Mountain, Parkman Mountain, Gilmore Mountain, Sergeant Mountain, Penobscot Mountain, Cedar Marsh Mountain, and Norumbega Mountain. The views were awesome and the trails were gorgeous! I think Presto might actually be tired now :-).

Woohoo! The carriage trails opened up! We decided to take advantage of this by doing an epic ride with Presto :-). It was a pretty foggy day, so we saw a lot of the inside of clouds, but the nearby scenery was gorgeous. Presto was happily trotting along-side us the entire way. Whenever the trails were lined with boulders, he'd constantly run ahead and poke his head through the breaks to check out the views, then run to the next hole and poke his head through that one, then the next... Adorable! Too bad we didn't do those last two miles for Presto's first marathon, but judging by how much running ahead and sniffing and then stopping for the view and running ahead and then turning around and waiting for us to crank our way up a hill he was doing it looks like he'd easily qualify for Boston even on a crazy hilly course :-).

Hiking up Bernard Mountain with SGB and Presto! This wasn't in our original plan, but when we sort of ended up near the parking area accidentally, we decided to just go with it! It was a pretty neat hike with lots of squishy, mossy sections that make Acadia look so other-worldly :-). We put a new set of booties on Presto, and he seemed blissfully unaware that anything had ever happened to his feet. We did have some fairly terrifying descents down incredibly steep, icy slopes (the microspikes are so much less useful sitting in the motel room!), but all in all, it was an excellent way to spend the afternoon!

The park loop road is closed because of sequestration and the carriage trails are currently closed for spring thaw, so we decided it would be a perfect time to bike up Cadillac Mountain with Presto! It was sunny and gorgeous out, so after spending the morning writing (me) and acquiring Presto booties (SGB and Presto), we headed on out. Presto had an absolute blast! We still couldn't keep up with him, but he thought it was fantastic that we were so much faster (at least until the serious climb started!). We were averaging 20-25mph on the two miles down the mountain and Presto was easily cruising along with us :-). The booties were a fantastic help, but the super-fast road running did take their toll. Presto completely shredded the booties and managed to run some of his pads a bit raw, so I forcibly held Presto back while SGB brought the car around to a closer parking area. Aside from feeling bad for Presto's feet (although Presto seemed completely oblivious to them), this was a truly awesome outing!!!

Running/hiking with SGB and Presto up Dorr Mountain in Acadia! SGB and I decided to head to Acadia for some much needed fun-time and also to kick-start my thesis writing because being in lab is too distracting. After I got a goodly amount of writing done in the morning, we headed off to Dorr Mountain. The views were pretty good on the way up, but the summit was in the clouds. Presto was super happy to be out and about, and SGB and I were too :-).
