Orienteering 3:37:41 [3] *** 13.9 km (15:40 / km) +495m 13:18 / km
26c shoes: Mizuno Ascend

Blue Hills Traverse with Presto! Presto seemed to recover by the end of Saturday and was excited about orienteering when I asked him if he wanted to go, so we headed out to the Blue Hills even though his caloric intake over the past 24 hours had been something very close to zero. We were in the pack for the first 2 controls, but then the pack back where I was started doing silly things (not that I don't do silly things, but I'd prefer to do my own silly things over someone else's :-) ) and pretty soon we were on our own, and basically stayed on our own for the rest of the race. There was a herd of deer running near us for a good chunk of the course, which meant Presto was going insane and had to be on a leash, which definitely slowed things down, but not as much as waiting for Presto to come back after a good deer-run would have been :-). You'd think someone who had thrown up 8 times the day before and eaten virtually nothing would be less energetic...

Anyway, after taking sub-optimal route choices to 8 and 9, we met up with Jeff Schapiro at just about the halfway point and then proceeded to meet up with him at most of the rest of the controls on the course, although we were typically running separately. I had trouble on 15, where I was too low in the reentrant and didn't see the flag and then on 20 where Jeff and I did a thorough search of the mapped and unmapped boulders in the vicinity before stumbling on the correct one. After that, my brain was kind of done, so luckily the navigation was a bit easier, although I did get slightly confused at 24 when I came into the marsh lower down than I was expecting. Jeff left 25 slightly before me, but miraculously I was still able to run pretty well, so I pushed it in to the end. Presto and I had a great time!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Good long stretch!

Biking 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (10:00 / mi)

Mountain biking with SGB and Presto. This was a fun outing, although we ended up going much slower than we planned due to numerous downed trees, some confusion about where the fire trails went, and several lake-like puddles in the middle of trails (at one point the water was up to my ankles while I was pedaling through it...)

We did eventually find the actual mountain bike loop and then the pace picked up significantly, but the beginning was hilariously slow. A casual hiker was keeping pace with us :-). Turns out we probably shouldn't have taken Presto on this outing considering that he spent the rest of the day vomiting, but he was having so much fun and seemed like such a happy dog while he was out there!

Running 25:03 [3] 3.1 mi (8:05 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 6

Running with Presto after lab! It was pretty cold and wet outside, although I was actually fine wearing shorts and a long-sleeved shirt. Presto was shivering in his big yellow rain jacket, though, but he seemed happy to be out anyway. We didn't see any wildlife, but Presto was on high alert anyway.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Abs, while Presto dried himself off on the couch :-).

Stretching 3:00 [3]

The start of my normal stretching but then Presto got tired of waiting for dinner and started poking me with his nose and climbing into my lap and stuff, and I was too amused to continue :-).

Running 32:18 [3] 3.8 mi (8:30 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 6

Running with Presto while my experiment finished up because it was really just getting too late to be hanging out in lab waiting for it... Presto was SOOOO excited to get out, and it was really nice to not be either running gels or holed up in the microscope room. We saw Giacomo coming back from track while we were out there and generally had a good time. We stopped at lab on the way back for me to stop the experiment and clean things up, and then headed on home. The weather right now is amazing!

Stretching 5:00 [3]

Normal stretching.
