Orienteering 1:12:56 [3] *** 4.2 km (17:22 / km) +185m 14:14 / km
14c (injured) shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

SGB, Per, and I got to West Point basically at the time we were supposed to be starting, so there was a massive period of running around getting registration packets, putting on clothes, and dashing up the start. We arrived at 10:59 and started at 11:00. Phew! Thanks to the cadets for being so accommodating! With my ankle still not being completely sturdy, I just took it slow and tried to be accurate. This mostly worked. Things went really well to 1, 2, and 3. At 3, Per (who started a minute behind me) caught me and then we continued to see each other for the rest of the course. Five was a bit sloppy, but I didn't lose too much time. Six and seven were basically fine. I messed up 8 a bit and had to relocate off the nearby saddle, but then found it after some convincing myself that the rock was really a knoll. Things were fine until 12 where I checked out a cliff that was too high before going down to the correct cliff (luckily I was coming down on the control, so I didn't have to do extra climb). Then it was just off to 13, 14, and into the finish. The hardest part for me was figuring out what was mapped and what wasn't, but other than speed, I was pretty pleased with this!

Orienteering 30:15 [3] *** 2.5 km (12:06 / km) +95m 10:10 / km
18c (injured) shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

I tried to move a bit faster on this, but my ankle was bothering me a bit, so I ended up slowing back down. Things were basically clean until going to 6, where I definitely took a suboptimal route out of 5 through the bamboo. Then things were basically ok (except for my increasingly sad left quad) until 12, where I got distracted by a orange/brown/green control and took a while relocating. I then headed off for the controls around the campground, which were going ok until leaving 15, where I did a 180. Luckily it didn't take me long to realize I was running in the opposite direction, but I still felt stupid. Then things were fine to the end. It was a great day of orienteering!

Stretching 5:00 [3]

I had a truly awesome time orienteering today, and a great time hanging out with everyone! I didn't run with Presto, so here's the best Presto-related incident to make sure that Presto is mentioned in all my logged days :-):

Presto ran with SGB in the middle and apparently a JROTC kid saw Presto out in the woods and thought that Presto was a tiger. He was then terrified that the woods of West Point were infested with tigers :-).

Also, thanks to Ali for letting us stay at her house and feeding us and everything. A meal with 11 avocados for 7 people can make any day good!

Biking 20:00 [3] 4.6 mi (4:21 / mi)

Biking to rehearsal and back. There was a huge fire about 2 blocks off Broadway. The smoke was really intense and even two blocks away I could feel the heat from the flames. I hope nobody was hurt!

Running 28:43 [3] 3.3 mi (8:42 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Brooks Running 5

I missed the park-O tonight because of my rehearsal, but figured I should still take Presto out for a run, so we headed out. My legs were feeling super tired probably from being sleep deprived, tense, and perhaps also from biking. It was really humid out but otherwise very pleasant with lots of flowers making everything pretty. We saw two rabbits and Presto almost caught one that was sitting right near the path. I hadn't noticed it until Presto jerked hard on the leash. Just after I finished the running my left quad completely cramped up. I walked around for about 10 minutes and stretched it out a bunch, but it's still kind of sore (on Friday). It doesn't feel problematic or like I pulled something or anything like that. It just feels like sore muscle from working it too hard (which I clearly have not been doing). Hopefully it will be feeling better by tomorrow. Otherwise, this will be an interesting weekend...

Stretching 15:00 [3]

Normal stretching, foam rolling, and cruciatus stretches.

Orienteering 17:31 [3] *** 2.1 km (8:20 / km)
12c (injured) shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

Egg Yolk course at Boojum Rock. SGB, Presto, and I decided we wanted to go to the Boojum Rock meet. Unfortunately, we had no transportation. Fortunately, Eric is awesome and was thinking about going out to Boojum Rock anyway, and 40 minutes later we were on our way :-). We started out by all running the yellow together to participate in the Easter egg hunt. It was lots of fun to run together, and yellow courses are incredibly rewarding :-).

Orienteering 1:17:04 [3] *** 3.9 km (19:46 / km)
12c (injured) shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

Brown course at Boojum Rock with Presto. Wow, was I dehydrated. My body clearly could not deal with the 30-something degree increase in temperature from yesterday. The map scale was also 1:7500 which took me a long time to get into, and the green briar was out in force. I ran about two feet away from the first control without seeing it because it was on the other side of a big, fuzzy pine tree and then wandered in confusion for a short while. Number two and three were fine once I disentangled myself from the thorns, but then 4-6 were terrible. I would get basically to the control and then wander in the circle for a while. Six was supposed to be a water control, but there was no water left and man was I thirsty. I also decided that wandering aimlessly inside the control circle was stupid and actually started orienteering, so the last part of the course was smoother but so slow. I got water at 11, so 12 and the finish felt much better than the rest :-). It was such a nice day, though that Presto and I just felt great to be outside!

Stretching 5:00 [3]

Normal stretching.
