Blue Hills Traverse with Presto. All in all, pretty terrible. I never really felt like I could actually run. I couldn't breath. I couldn't make my legs move. I was tripping over things. My hips were killing me. I was watching people pass me that normally I would have no problem keeping up with/ahead of. It was frustrating and bizarre. Then right before control 12 I was jumping over a log which apparently had pointy sticks sticking out of it and smashed my right foot into one of the pointy sticks. I stood there in agony for a few minutes and then decided that I could actually continue to move on it, so I kept going. (In retrospect, I'm not sure this was the most brilliant of moves.) I thought I should probably take a Gu at the water stops, but I wasn't feeling very good and didn't really feel hungry or like eating at all, so I didn't. I did force myself to eat a couple of fig newtons at the food stop. I hit the wall going to 18 and then it was just a death march/limp to the end. I got lost in the millions of pine trees around 21 and lost the group I'd been with on and off from control 8 on. I then proceeded to loose 30 minutes to them in the last 6 controls, while I wondered what I was doing out there. I finished the course in a haze of pain barely able to put any weight on my right foot and coughing more or less uncontrollably.
As it turns out, there was a good reason for all of this. Today (Monday) I have a sore throat, runny nose, and a sinus headache, which explains the achy hips and inability to move or breath out there. To top it off, I also have a swollen, multicolored foot. At least Presto had a good time :-).
