Orienteering (Ski-O (Classic)) 3:16:38 [3] *** 20.0 km (9:50 / km)
spiked:12/13c

Long distance Ski-O champs at Craftsbury. This was a lot of fun! The conditions were a lot better today, which was nice, and it was snowing the whole time! I had one embarrassing mistake after taking a short cut and not being sure where I came out which cost me 10 minutes because of my slow skiing and inability to relocate. Taking all the features off a map other than the trails and the contours can make it REALLY hard to relocate. Other than that this was pretty clean. I took my skis off quite a few times to traverse some of the pink and green dotted trails as well as to run on the road between 8 and 9 and run down the reentrant to get to 7 (carrying skis and poles and running in ski boots, which were NOT made for running). Unfortunately putting the skis back on took a ridiculous amount of time, so I lost a decent amount of time to that. The official straight-line distance was 11.3km, but I'm using Ken's garmin's record of the real distance, since we more or less had to stay on trails the whole time.

Orienteering (Ski-O (Classic)) 1:40:38 [3] *** 5.8 km (17:21 / km)
spiked:14/14c

Middle distance Ski-O champs at Beaver Brook Farm. This was a lot of fun even if I am an exceptionally slow skier. The course was pretty fun, although navigationally very easy (although there were definitely some route choice decisions). The trails were pretty bumpy and had some places without snow on them (especially the snowmobile trail at the end), but I managed to get around.

Running 15:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Running 3

Running with Ian and Presto down and then back up the HUGE hill between the road and the Fritz's barn.

Cross-Country Skiing warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Skiing around before my start getting used to the skis and determining that I would definitely have at least one blister before the end of the weekend. Alex also confirmed that REI rented Ian and I poles that were WAY too short, so luckily we were able to get more appropriate length poles before we started.

Running 33:21 [3] 3.9 mi (8:33 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 3

Running with Presto in the snow on my birthday!!! Ran into lab to change my cells from galactose to glucose and then ran down to the river to do the JFK-River St. loop. Presto got to try out his new booties in the snow and salt as a practice run for the Ski-O this weekend. He's going to be all decked out with his jacket and his blue booties :-). My legs were feeling kind of tight and the sidewalks were pretty slippery, but it was good to get out in the morning before the snow starting melting too much.

Running 9:00 [3] 1.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 3

Running from my apartment to Brendan's with Presto and a backpack. Met up with Alex towards the end. It was warmer than I thought, so I was definitely wearing too many layers. Luckily this gave me a chance to take some stuff off before CSU training.

Orienteering 40:40 [3] * 4.4 mi (9:15 / mi)
5c shoes: Brooks Running 3

Street-O on the way to and from Tufts. Alex, Presto, and I ran together, which was a lot of fun. Perhaps too much fun because we were talking instead of paying attention to where we were going :-). I had a vague idea of what was going on, but definitely got confused on the way to Tufts. We were much less stupid on the way back.

Orienteering 19:46 [3] *** 2.4 km (8:14 / km)
spiked:16/18c shoes: Brooks Running 3

Sprint at Tufts with Presto, who greatly amused the Tufts students with his jacket. I started slightly before Ian, who caught up to me around 3 or 4 and then we were pretty close for the rest of the sprint, which definitely helped to keep me moving quickly! This was pretty clean. On number 15 I wasn't sure if a gate was open or not (since some of the "open" gates on the map were in fact closed I'm assuming because it was nighttime), so I opted to go with the "closed" option and since I think in the end it in fact was open, this was not the best choice. There was another gate issue between 17 and 18, but I noticed that the optimal gate was closed from the top of the hill, so I didn't lose much, if any, time there.

Strength 2:00 [3]

Crunches at the finish of the Tufts sprint while waiting for Alex so we could run back together.
