Running 30:00 [3]

When I pulled out of the driveway to go to hot yoga this morning, I thought, gee, that's a lot of snow, but me and the little Echo plowed ahead into town. Got to yoga studio but no one is there. Considered that I may not have needed to drive into town as the university may be closed, but they don't make the announcement until after 6. Happened to have a few odds and ends of running clothes in the car so combined those with my hot yoga outfit and went to the gym instead waiting to find out about work. I looked a bit funny running on the treadmill in my Speedcross with a long sleeve top. Came out to find out that the university was indeed closed so came back home for the upper body workout that was shoveling my driveway. Yay for snow days!

Snowshoeing 1:45:00 [3]

Headed out to break some trail on my snowshoes in the afternoon. Great fun and also good for teaching me patience as it was such slow going! Cold but bright and sunny and very grateful to the snow day for allowing me a bit of extra unanticipated outdoor time!

Running race 1:00:37 [4] 8.5 km (7:08 / km)

Always interested in winter events to keep me from going into hibernation, I signed up for the Personal Best snowshoe / run event at Albion today. Thought 8km of running on snowshoes would take the fun out of it so signed up for the 4km/4km snowshoe run option. The balance was more 4.75 snowshoe / 3.75 run but who is counting? Was a super fun course and although the field was small, there were some really strong racers.

Felt good throughout and like I pushed hard (for me). Had been jostling back and forth with 3-4 women on the snowshoe and when I got ahead of them I tried to hold my position. I figured they would be stronger runners than I was and they definitely closed the gap on the 'out' portion of the run but I managed to hold the gap and feel like I'd run hard on the way back.

A super fun, low-key event that hopefully will continue!

Took advantage of the bit of fresh snow we got to get out on snowshoes this morning. Crisp but beautiful out. Combination of hiking and running.

Running 30:00 [3]

Road / trail combination. Didn't think I'd need a headlamp but should have brought one as I couldn't see what was snow vs. ice on the trails.
