Orienteering (Hamsterley Common) 1:05:11 [3] **** 10.25 km (6:22 / km) +322m 5:30 / km

SL: 9.3/275. Heathertastic. Generally positive. Had good plans for most legs.
main problems:

4 - went off bearing, thought spur on ground was the one NW of control so went into the wrong area (handily folded away from view). 2.5-3 mins
6 - hand-railed it, not as runnable as I thought and Duncan caught me up.
8 - not a mistake but heavy going on the contour, Duncan went high and was much quicker. 'Spiked' but about 1min slower.
9 - bearing. Time loss minimised as I could see Duncan making the mistake I was about to.
10 - veered off line at end of leg. Not too bad (20secs)
11- not confident enough from AP into hidden control - need stronger bearing. 40secs headscratching minimised by being lead into it by Paul Taylor.
Then finally got into my running, feeling the best I have since before Christmas. Was close to Duncan's splits (even had him on a few) on the rest of the course excepting:
15 - too far right and overshot - dicey bearing.

2.5 mins off inflicting a forfeit on The Ent. Sorry Guys, some bearing work and I'll get it sorted. Although he is entered as NATO so you can have that one instead. Still 10mins off Duncan, even after he supported leg3 of BG yesterday. Mainly through iffy bearings and being a fanny through the heather on my part. Should have been closer to 60.

CLOK training at Silton Forest (yummy).
My new O plan is to actually plan before I start off on a leg. This worked at times today but there were some entertaining moments. Re-ran a leg at one point, not that it helped too much.

Out round Ayton with Shaun. Bit cooler today so cracking weather for it - Roseberry topping, Hanging Stone and Captain Cook's. Shaun's going well at the moment as he's in the middle of Marathon training. Coupled with my staleness we were a good match and we kept each other fairly honest on the ups - although he did pull away on the shallow drag to Captain Cook's - the shame!

day off running tomorrow.
Time off work and flights booked for Tallinn, which will be my first non-UK O ever!

Tits blazing around the river, including 3big and 3 medium lumps, the bigger of which had a ladies fitness group on, doubt they appreciated my milk-bottle torso joining them for a few minutes!
Frogmen under the Haverton bridge as someone went for a dive.

7 days running in a row.

Out along the river then 2.5km back at target 1/2mara pace (3:45) just to see what it's like. Needless to say that in my current state this was a bit of a struggle - I had a stitch for the first time in ages at one point.
The hills are calling but will have to wait until Thursday.

I've noticed of late that I've lost a bit of mental sharpness - highlighted by shoddier than usual nav at the weekend and some pretty shoddy sight-reading of choral music. More sleep needed!

Running - Road 40:57 intensity: (28:57 @2) + (12:00 @3) 8.34 km (4:54 / km) +100m 4:38 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Asics Afforest

Last 2 nights' sleep have been pretty shoddy.
I finally realised I worked for a living today. Up until now it's been fun, but with the weather, not being a great mood and having to cram 2 days worth of work into 1 (I'm OK with this if I've been warned, but I wasn't) I missed being able to sit in a park all day.

Anyway, eventually got out after the weekly shop. Did some concerted effort over the lumps, 3,3,2,2,1,1. Was going to do 3,3,3,3 but there was a big dog on the 3rd one. Feeling tired but 3rd day with minimal knee irritation. Lets get back on it.

Cracking view of Venus and Jupiter, and the sunset/bridge/lights reflection on the mill-pond tees was a big surprise for this locale.
