Red course on the expanded Dwaas Kill-Kinn's Road map. Somehow I managed to get there right at 1 pm, so no warm-up time.
Pretty quickly it seemed like the contours were dubious. Like #2 looks like it should be more at the top of a hill than the bottom. Along with the challenging terrain (marshy, thick vegetation, large streams to cross) I saw this as an opportunity to work on advanced rogaining skills. For example, crossing at the Long Kill/Dwaas Kill junction en route to #7, the water was chest deep. I straddled a log about 3 feet over the water, shimmied down until a small rock was in range, swung my left leg over, leapt with my right onto the rock and then lunged with my left to the far bank, grabbing a vine that I hope wasn't poison ivy. Success!
On the down side, I think it took me 20 minutes to get from #11 to the road - less than 100 meters. The map shows a solid wall of green, so no other option but to go through it. At one point I was standing on vines that held my weight, about 4 feet in the air. How did others manage this? The only viable route choice was marked out of bounds.
