Easy morning ride; ten minutes at setting 4, twenty at setting 5, ten at setting 4. I think setting 5 at about 28-32 kph is a reasonable facsimile for fast touring effort. I need to train up to cycling twelve hours at that difficulty and speed.
Afternoon session while it was light out just after lab meeting. I warmed up for 20 minutes, then did 4x5 minute intervals with 3 minutes easy between bouts, and cooled down for 11 minutes.
First interval was at setting 6, second was at setting 7, and the last two had three minutes at 6, two at 7. Five minutes hard at setting 7 is tough; my heart rate was over 170. I maintained a high cadence and a nominal speed over 20 mph during the bouts. Even outside in 1 C conditions and wearing shorts and a t-shirt, I was a sweaty mess by the end. A good session.
