I set out to explore the waterfront trail heading east. Certainly near Toronto, the bike routes offer a difficult trade-off between interacting with slow pedestrians or interacting with fast cars. Kingston St was surprisingly pleasant, though the lower traffic due to the great pandemic isolation may have helped. For a stretch of about a km on Kingston at 1:03, I had a bit of a showdown with a friendly car who seemed to be encouraging me. Probably aided by a tailwind, I managed to crank up to 40 kph on flat.
Interestingly, while cruising down the Donn river trail, I repeatedly collided with swarms of gnats. My speed was sufficiently high that I found a number of bug corpses on my shirt by the time I reached the lake front.
