Signed up for the Flying Pig, plane tickets acquired. Get psyched. I will face the Aligator.

Also stumbled across Julian Dent's AP log. Like many fast people, his logging has been very inconsistent over the past 7 years, but there is still a good bit to study and try to delve the secrets of how to get fast.

Running 44:10 intensity: (1:54 @1) + (13:28 @2) + (26:03 @3) + (2:45 @4) 9.05 km (4:53 / km) +24m 4:49 / km
ahr:155 max:172 shoes: 201104 Mizuno Waverider 14

Easy run out-and-back along the bike trail. I don't generally like out-and-backs, because I feel like I'm not making progress until I turn around. They're also painfully boring, but that was suitable today. I kept it relatively short because I had a long day, and I was concerned about overdoing it after last week.

My two non-minimalist running shoes - the Mizunos and my beloved Asics GT-2150s - presently have 486 and 643 miles respectively. I still have the Inov-8 RoadX 255s, but I need to acquire some new pavement running shoes. I haven't used the Asics since the adventure race with bgallup in December. I'll probably stop by the local running store for some basic shoes. A pair like the Asics has the amortized cost of about $0.10 per mile.

Running 55:38 intensity: (47 @1) + (1:06 @2) + (22:16 @3) + (31:29 @4) 11.16 km (4:59 / km) +36m 4:54 / km
ahr:164 max:174 slept:12.0 shoes: 201104 Mizuno Waverider 14

Easy, meandering run to work. I'm not sure I can still refer to a run as "easy" when my ahr exceeds 160. I felt a bit sluggish, but I guess that's to be expected after three days of nothing.
11 PM

Running 36:32 intensity: (54 @1) + (10:26 @2) + (25:12 @3) 6.91 km (5:17 / km) +43m 5:08 / km
ahr:156 max:164 shoes: 201104 Mizuno Waverider 14

Meandering run home. I had only planned on a 20-25 minute run, but underestimated the distance of my zig-zag. Squeezing in 18 km today was trivial with a second workout, and my legs feel great (albeit still sluggish).

Note

Rhr measured sitting at my desk was 58, so I think I'm largely recovered.

Running 42:59 [1] 7.62 km (5:38 / km) +43m 5:29 / km
shoes: 201210 Inov-8 Road X 255

Post symphony run home. Tonight's concert featured Lang Lang playing Rach 2, Hindemith's Concert Music for strings and brass, and Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

A disappointing finish to February, though I do think that taking the time to rest was the prudent course. Counting my bout with the flu in January, I have had eleven sick days in the first 59 days of the year. I need to take better care of my body; to that end, I set the same distance and control goals for March as for February - 300 km/200 controls of running and O.

Yay go Kikkan and Jess: Gold at the World Champs Team Sprint

I woke feeling very tired today and with a sore throat. After some consultation with my guru, I suspect that my recovery has been insufficient for the amount of training I have been doing. I'm hopeful that deliberately increasing my sleep and backing off a bit will restore my vitality. I took the day off from work to rest.

Running 44:34 intensity: (7 @0) + (43:34 @1) + (53 @2) 7.06 km (6:19 / km) +96m 5:55 / km
ahr:132 max:147 shoes: 201210 Inov-8 Road X 255

I felt a bit tired after a tough weekend, so after starting my laundry, I sauntered around Somerville. I considered taking the day off entirely, but I decided a short recovery run would be better and would maintain my rhythm. I think the past seven days constitute my most substantial running mileage week.

With 43 kilometers to go in three days, it looks unlikely that I will achieve February's 300 run+O km, but I'm ok with that. I don't intend to kill myself to attain the goal, because the goal is secondary to a good training regimen and optimizing my performance. I really surrendered my objective in the second week of February. With three open training weekends in March, I think 350 km is attainable, especially if the snow melts enough that I can O faster than 11 min/km.
