Comfortable pace ride around my neighborhood. The first 50 km was quite flat, slowed only by wind, slowing for pedestrians, and stop signs/traffic lights. The last 15 km had some punchy climbs, peaking at over 12% on Alameda de las Pulgas. I chose this route to add a bit of climb at the end, but I underestimated how much this would tax me. Still, this is a good neighborhood loop that I aim to improve on.

It had not escaped my attention that San Bruno Mountain is quite close to my office, so at the end of the day, I set out to ride up it. The route is quite pleasant, though negotiating the traffic lights in South San Francisco at the start of the loop is a bit tedious.

Oddly, the hardest climb was around km 4, on Sister Cities Blvd - a 500m section at 8.6% according to Strava. The climb of substance was 3.3 km with 170m of climb. Radio Rd promises an additional 150m of climb, but I didn't think I had enough time given my constraints.

The descent was glorious and relatively free from cars. I took it a bit cautiously because it was unfamiliar. My speed peaked around 70 kph on my head unit, and I heard an alarming rattling sound coming from my bike. I quickly deduced that my Contigo tumbler, which I was using for water, was rattling in my bottle cage. This looks to be an excellent and convenient ~90 minute, 30 km, 360m ride.

The slogan for this ride is "your East coast 28-tooth granny gear is not going to cut it in the bay area." Crestview drive had 200m of climb in 2.2 km. Much character was built. My Wahoo lost GPS about 3km in, and wasn't regaining it, so I power cycled the unit mid-climb.
