Last day! I went out in third place overall, enough behind 2nd and ahead of 4th that I was pretty sure I would stay there. This day stayed out of the super technical stuff and ran us up and down hills and in and out of the open areas. Ran really hard in the beginning and paid for it a bit with a mistake at 8. I was also distracted by Sandra :) It's hard when you see people you know out there! But we went different ways to 11, so lost sight of her. Was clean after that, except for dropping a bit too low on 16 and having to climb extra, losing about 30 seconds. A good solid and fast run to end the week!

A rainy day, though raining less hard when I went out in the afternoon. Missed 1 and 2, and then took a not so great route to 3 and missed 4. Not too much time lost, but it adds up! After that I think I was pretty clean (except for a 2 minute mistake on 12) just really reading the map carefully and taking my time. It was slippery on the slopes, so I couldn't read the map and run at the same time. So I'd pick a point, run to it, stop, pick a new point, repeat. I'm sure I wasn't doing this the entire way, but in the rocky technical area I sure was!

The orienteering here is very technical, and again it was about never losing contact with the map and moving slowly. Of course as it was the third day of orienteering in a row going slowly wasn't so hard anymore :)

Today I just kept it all under control. Didn't ever go too fast and had a much cleaner race. But it's slow to orienteer this way - never losing contact with the map. I can feel very secure but I cannot go quickly orienteering this way.

OOCup Day 1. Running W35 with Sandra. One of those days when you have to remind yourself that you are taking a vacation and going orienteering because you like it. I was not pleased with myself out there. Lost 14 minutes on 2 controls, and other smaller mistakes. Really, really not my day.

Training map. About 1/3 of the map was covered with thorny vines that grabbed at your ankles. Luckily we didn't see any of this on the racing days.
