OCIN Flying Pig XXII - Voice of America Middle - Green (F35+)

Last day, a little bit more of a city park feel plus the remnants and ruins of the VOA tower bases. Legs still feeling stupid and wooden, so again slower than I would like. But there was even more stuff to trip over here (bush hogged plant stubble, or whole plants flattened down, and tall spiky plants I have learned are called teasel. And the ground was even muddier. So I alternated between getting sucked into the ground or tripping and had to walk in a higher step marching style which is more tiring.

Overall, though I wasn't happy with my speed, it was a fun weekend in some unique venues. I liked the long sprint feel. (I would really love an urban or campus classic length race with a sprint feel!)

OCIN Flying Pig XXII - Elk Creek Park Classic - Green (F35+)

Day two was on an abandoned golf course which is being turned into a park. Mostly open with various types of footing, though lots of the areas (I guess the former rough?) were both hummocky and muddy which is hard going for me and my inability to pick up my toes. I tripped enough and once fell onto my knees and hands. The areas of shorter grass or almost barren land (fairways and greens?) were much smoother and easy to run on.

Did not have much run in me today. For whatever reason my legs just didn't want to turn over. Most of this was at a good fast walk. The most running I did was actually on the trails in the wooded hillside.

Only had a real moment of hesitation on 16 when I came out of the last control at kind of a weird angle and mistook the two rocks on the loop of trail for two small buildings, which of course I couldn't find since they didn't exist. But only lost a few seconds there, as there was only one big patch of woods and it was the right one.

Went north around the lake to the last control, though I noticed the potential for swimming and apparently one person took that choice.

After the race we went back and showered, then went to the Voice of America museum, which was cool. And only getting there an hour before closing, we didn't have time to look at everything very closely. So another one to visit again in the future.

OCIN Flying Pig XXII - Pyramid Hill Sculpture Park Middle - Green (F35+)

The entire weekend featured races that were more like long sprints. Which I loved, except for the fact that I'm not the fastest runner (and also not in great shape currently) which meant there was no chance for me to make up time with good navigation alone. However, the cool and unique venues were worth it. The first day was in a sculpture park. It took me a little bit to get into the map going to 1 and 2. After that everything was pretty smooth. Loved control 7 inside the ruin the best.

I only wish the starts had been a little earlier so we could have had time to further explore the area after the races. We even got bumped up to earlier starts and it was still a rush to get checked in at the hotel, get showers, and get to dinner which we ended up eating after 8:30 PM. So we will try to come back to this place and see all the sculptures on another visit.
