road run race 34:01 [5] 5.0 km (6:48 / km)
shoes: Asics Enduro

4th Annual Rock N Glow 5K

This went much better than I could have expected. Only about 3:30 slower than last year. I was much more limited by being out of shape than by pain. I was able to run the entire first mile in about 9:30, but slowed a lot after that.

It was super humid - rained for hours leading up to the race, then stopped raining almost immediately before the start. The whole time was gross and sticky. I would have rather been wet.

Protocol: took 2 acetaminophen in the morning (instead of normal naproxin) with 2 calcium/magnesium/zinc (normal). Two hours before race, 2 tums and 2 naproxin.

Post race, took a hot shower and put some Biofreeze (came in race packet) on the leg

The big test will be what I feel like tomorrow.

At this point I plan a few more weeks of mostly rest. It seems to be doing the trick. Then try to ease back into activities one at a time...

Note

Yes, I've really been doing nothing. And I have started feeling a lot better. Not perfect. But much better.

The 5K this weekend (that I registered for many months ago, along with some others later this year) will be a bit of a test, as well as the aftermath of it. I plan to do as little or as much as I feel capable of at the moment. Several friends plan to walk so even if that's all I can muster, it'll be fine. But hoping for more.
