Note

XC Meet at CCRI.

Trail Run warm up/down 16:37 [2] 2.08 mi (8:00 / mi)
slept:5.0 shoes: Saucony Trigon (9/07)

Warm-up for XC race at CCRI. Feeling quite tired from lack of sleep and not fully recovered from the week.

Trail Run race 34:22 [3] 8.0 km (4:18 / km)
shoes: Integrators 2007

8km XC race at CCRI. Started out fine but started dropping off already after the 2nd mile feeling like I had an empty gas tank. Started to feel a bit better after the 3rd mile mark, but then suddenly cramped up so bad that I had to stop repeatedly to try to walk it off. Decided to just jog the rest of the race anyway though, and finished up with a new longest record of 34:22!

I really can't figure out what caused the cramp though. I never get cramps, and the only other time I had it so bad was in an XC race last year. Aside from the lack of sleep, my race preparation was almost perfect and definitely no different from any other meet. I ate a bagel 3 hours before the race, was drinking Gu2O up to about 45 minutes before when I ate a gel and some water before the warmup. Can't figure out how any of that could have caused the cramp, so perhaps it has something to do with my long-term diet instead. I'll try to boost up on calcium for a bit to see if that helps, but it will be hard to say since I haven't had any problems with cramps in the slightest before today...

Easy Friday jog with the team. Legs felt fine at this pace although I could tell I was tired from yesterday's workout. Hopefully I'll be fully recovered by tomorrow.

Road Run warm up/down 4:05 [3] 0.57 mi (7:10 / mi)
slept:6.5 shoes: Saucony Trigon (9/07)

Brisk run down to the Dolan for XC practice. Feeling tired.

Road Run warm up/down 23:10 [2] 3.1 mi (7:28 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Trigon (9/07)

Warm-up run out to Elm Park with a small detour for distance.

Trail Run intervals 14:53 [5] 3.0 mi (4:58 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Trigon (9/07)

Ran 2x400, 4x800, 2x400 meter intervals at Elm Park with the team. Felt pretty good starting out, but had a lot of trouble on the 800s. Decided to just pick it up on the third 800 to see if it was all just psychology. Thought I'd just stay ahead of T-Mac for as long as I could but found that in the back stretch I had enough to actually pull away from him in the end. Ran that split 10 seconds faster than the previous two, but it killed me for the next one. Still, it felt really good to just push all out and not be flitting around just below that upper intensity. I really need to figure out how to overcome this mental block that is keeping me from getting up into that higher intensity zone and staying there on longer distances. It was funny how I felt fine on the 400s but when we started the 800s at a slower pace it felt harder already in the beginning even though we were running slower. I guess I just need to figure out how to trick myself into fighting the little battles and ignoring how much is left.

Anyway, here are my splits. We weren't very sure about the 400m distance, and actually added on about 5 meters after the first one, so that one is slower than it looks.

1.) 1:07
2.) 1:12
3.) 2:33
4.) 2:36
5.) 2:24
6.) 2:40
7.) 1:09
8.) 1:12

Trail Run long 1:00:00 [2] 8.0 mi (7:30 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Trigon (9/07)

Easy trail run out at Rutland State Park with the XC team. Legs felt good at the easy pace. A bit of a guess on the distance since I couldn't figure out the route through the trees very accurately on gmaps.

Road Run warm up/down 17:39 [2] 2.4 mi (7:21 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Trigon (9/07)

Easy warmup out to Mill and June St. Feeling really good after a day off yesterday.

Road Run tempo 29:22 [5] 4.51 mi (6:31 / mi) +200m 5:43 / mi
shoes: Saucony Trigon (9/07)

Took another shot at the Mower-Airport Time Trial. Felt really good starting out but definitely was not as strong on the hills as last time. Lost 15 seconds on the Airport hill section over my last PR, but was fast enough on the rest of the course to still PR by 8 seconds. Not as exciting as last time, but a PR is a PR so I'm definitely pleased.

Road Run warm up/down 26:50 [1] 3.41 mi (7:52 / mi)

Cool-down back home.
