Orienteering (Blue Short Course) 47:59 [4] 6.6 km (7:16 / km) +320m 5:51 / km

A short fast blue course in Ohio. I decided to run Blue since it was short enough, and I wanted to see how I could do against the top guys. I was feeling really good despite yesterdays run, so I ended up starting out too fast.

I blew the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th controls simply because I wasn't focusing. After that I settled down and had a good race.

I was feeling great physically, and I was in perfect mental shape, I just didn't focus at the start. The freezing cold air took my focus off of the race and forced me to start out without any concentration. I will have to be much more aware of my pre-start mental ritual to avoid making this mistake again.

Orienteering (Red Course) 1:07:36 [4] 7.84 km (8:37 / km) +340m 7:05 / km

My first competition of the year, out in Ohio. I ran Red.

I started out feeling very tired despite my rest, but it allowed me to stay focused since I wan't running too fast. I think it may have been because most of the hills were at the beginning, and this made me feel physically tired. The surprise cold also stunned me and made me feel pretty bad physically. Close to half way through the course I started to feel better and picked up the pace.

Overall it was a decent run although I had a few small mistakes. I would have liked to have broken 65 minutes, but I just wasn't feeling it at the beginning of the race.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

I went up to Surebridge for an easy map run. It was cold and rainy, but it felt great. My legs were dead going up the hills, but my knee felt alright. I climbed straight up for the first half of my run, and it was extremely steep. I enjoyed running across the top. It was almost like being in the clouds since the clouds were so low. The run down was fast, and I finished up with a road sprint back to the car and some hill runs once I got back.

My focus and navigation was pretty shaky, and I think I must have got all of my mistakes out of me for the next week or so, so I should be good to go this weekend. I think the combination of the extremely steep terrain and the weather kept me from focusing as much as you need to to read this highly detailed map.

Cross-Training (Volleyball Game) 1:00:00 [2]

We played a tough game but we lost in 4. My knee felt pretty sore and stiff, but it didn't really affect my movement. It was just sensitive to impact.

Cross-Training (Volleyball) 30:00 [1]

I went to volleyball practice instead of running today since I was still feeling pretty tired from the weekend. We did some good strength training including a lot of jumping workouts. My legs felt a little tired, but overall it was a good workout.

Note

My leg is pretty much fine. The bruise should heal quickly, and it doesn't affect my running. My knee felt a little weird in volleyball, and I injured it again by colliding with someone else's knee. I bruised one of the muscles below the knee and it is pretty weak. It should be fine in a day or two, but I will have to take it easy.
