Orienteering 48:13 [4] 5.7 km (8:28 / km) +100m 7:47 / km

Local meet at Allamuchy. The course was short and fairly easy, but the brambles made it a big fight. The majority of my lost time was spent fighting brambles. I even got stuck in one thorn patch for at least 2 minutes before I could free myself from the thorns. The weather was extremely cold and wet, and overall it wasn't too much fun.

I did not perform too well, as I never really warmed up. Even sprinting into the finish I felt as if I had just started running. I made about 5 minutes worth of mistakes most of which were just execution errors on route choice. Like yesterday I didn't run straight enough and wasted time zigzagging through the woods.

Orienteering 44:00 [4] 5.5 km (8:00 / km) +225m 6:38 / km

The weather was cold and rainy. The woods were thoroughly soaked, and so was I quickly after starting.

The course was an interesting training exercise put together by Western Connecticut OC. There were nine large circles drawn on the map, each with two controls inside. You had to go to each of the nine larger circles consecutively, but you could go to either of the two controls in the circle first. This was an interesting exercise since you always had a long leg and then a short leg.

I felt very good running in the rain. The woods were fairly thick in places, but nothing that was unpleasent. Much of the woods was fast open running, but I did not really run full speed. I did not make any big mistakes, but I was not very clean at all. I lost quite a bit of time because I was not executing my route choices cleanly and I zig-zagged too much. Since it was raining so hard I had to put my control card in my map case, so I lost about fifteen seconds at each control unfolding my map, punching, and folding it back up.

Overall my time seemed to be decent, but nothing terribly good. It felt good to be out on a map again and even if I wasn't in top shape I was happy with my run.

Cross-Training (Basketball) 1:00:00 [4]

Intramural basketball after school. It was my last chance to get ready for the basketball season. First practice is one Tuesday. I feel better, but I need to find my basketball shoes. I slid around a lot on my normal shoes and it was particularly straining on my muscles. I felt pretty good otherwise.

Cross-Training 1:30:00 [4]

Intramural basketball after school. I am still trying to get back in shape for the basketball season. I fell great anaerobically, but my muscles are quite used to the new activity yet. It will take me a little time to adjust and strengthen my old basketball muscles.
