Another night with not nearly enough sleep, and this time there was no excuse for it. I knew I had to get up early for training, but I just couldn't seem to get to bed.
Barb had set up a really nice training course with some line-o and window-o controls mixed in. She had also taken most of the trails off the map which was a really good exercise in using the terrain to navigate despite trail presence.
I ended up feeling really good physically, and most of the time mentally as well. Technically I was perfect for almost all of the course, but I still had 6 controls with lost time, amounting to almost 7 minutes lost. A good portion of this time lost was due to the special nature of the training though (the semi-mapping of trails in some parts made it harder to know when to trust a trail and when to ignore it), and I still felt as if it was a good run in terms of my technique.
I pushed hard physically at the appropriate times, and never once felt that I was losing time due to fitness. It was nice to be feeling so good physically especially after the tough week I have been having. I did notice that my Orienteering did feel a bit behind my running at some points. As long as I don't hit any extra-technical areas though I am fine. I'll have to keep this in mind in the upcoming races though.
Note
Despite feeling really great during the Orienteering, I just didn't feel up to doing the trail run afterwards. I was just too tired from lack of sleep, and even though I knew it would probably be really good for my legs, I couldn't get myself to do it.
At this point I just don't feel like fighting myself. I figure if my body is as tired as it is there is no need to try to push the training. Hopefully this bout of fatigue will pass soon so that I can get in a bit of good training before a small taper before the Pig. I would really like to be able to put in a lot of time at the Training Camp next weekend, so I have to make sure I am feeling strong enough for that. I know that I am in good enough shape, I just have to make sure that I plan carefully now and prepare my body in the best way for the upcoming races.
Priority number 1 is to get more sleep. Lack of sleep is probably the main cause for this recent exhaustion.
