Aus Champs relay W45. I had been trying and failing to get subbed out of my team, so today was about ensuring I made no mistakes and lost no time. Doped up on Nat's anti-inflams and taped ankles for a bit more stability. Ran 2nd leg. Was pretty happy with this, lost a bit of time on 5. Martina overtook me going to 7, but I just let her go as could not keep up. Lost track of where the run-through leg went but managed to work out my location reasonably well. Somehow managed to hand over to Al without using too much of Jo's lead. I had seen Martina leaving 9, never saw her again but she somehow came in behind me. So quite happy with myself, I can focus when there is some pressure!

Took it very easy all week, aiming to have a solid if slow day today. It turns out my mind was a slow as my pace and I made the biggest mistake for many, many years. A bit off on 1 and 2 basically because I did not engage with the scale (1:7,500). 3 through to 10 were very straightforward and a few of these were very disappointing for an Aus Champs. Having said that, Aoife's controls/legs in this area were much more challenging than ours! From 10 I chose the tough route choice for the long leg because I could not run and did not want to be bored out of my brain. During this leg I completely failed and ended up doing a 180 turn during the leg and took a NZ lady with me. We were so far off track we could not even relocate. We split up (I could not keep up with her when we turned back) and I soon worked out where I was. It was a slow slog from there to the finish. I was a bit disinterested and really struggling with my leg.
