A fairly good run today. I thought our baby course must have shared some controls/legs with the moderate courses, but that seems to be a fairly common theme. Lost a bit of time on 7 and 8 (poor direction through the diggings trying to protect hip by running on flatter ground), had to do shoelace 10-11 (amateur!) and then got direction wrong when I stood up again, hip pinching a few times so walked a bit each time it did and then it came good. Felt fairly smooth moving apart from that but speed limited.

Splits show mistakes well. I expected time losses on early legs with walking bits and also with mistake on 7.

Walk 20:00 [1] 1.0 km (20:00 / km) +6m 19:25 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 -new pair

Slow and painful trudge to assembly with Aoife. No string course today parents were in too much of a hurry to start trek home.

Note

Another long hike to the assembly for Aoife, plus twice around the string course. The second time against the rules (i.e. after official closing time, lucky the controls and string were still out).

A pretty technical day on which I seemed to do relatively OK. No problems really, the terrain that hampered me physically rather than technically. I'd say at any other speed the story would have been different. The only controls not happy with were 5 (was lower than I thought, my body would not go up when not necessary). This was annoying when I realised, but a good approach to the control. On 6 and 7, I got to the feature and was not confident it was mine (looked different to expectation) but control was there both times.

The splits say I lost time on 4 and 11 but this was just a speed/steepness issue got them both well. Also slow on the early controls with the climbing and uphill leg was bad one.

Note

1km walk to the assembly with Aoife was painful, but she recovered well to do the 900m string course (twice) and ran back to the car with Eoin. Lucky for me they met me with the car half way there.

Easter Day 1. Not sure how I'd go so started quite cautiously. Felt good and was navigating well. Lost time on 3 (apparently I should have been looking at people rather than the gullies), then was a bit off line on 4 going too far around green. Got the danger control well (6 I think). Left 9 the wrong direction (contour rather than climb). That was probably the most annoying mistake of the day. Saw Sandra at 13 and somehow got competitive... so took off like a headless chook to 14 and followed a ditch rather than the creek. Saved myself fairly quickly. Another stupid amateur mistake was trying to run into the finish, down hill and all. Did something very bad to my hip there.

Splits say I lost 2 minutes but I think it was about 4 when you take the errors on 3 and 4 into account.
