Last day. Unfortunately the start concept meant the late split starters were on their ownsome. This would have been fun to do with others around. Ran OK, missed 10 a bit and ran off with the fairies on the way to 13. Wasted time heading to 14 (thought I heard a whistle, but it must have been a bird). Finished OK.

HAd the least time overall after 5 days but lost the points competition based on best 4 of the 5 days.

Mass start. Started well, running my own race, oblivious to everyone else. Thought I'd make my own way to 5 rather than follow the pack. The dumb thing about that was that I was leading the pack. Just ran off in some random direction. Apparently there was a load "AHEM" to set me right. Strangely I didn't hear it... After I caught back up (they stuffed 6) made my own way to 7 but missed that too. Must have gotten it with the second or 3rd group, no idea really. With them (Shingo) but losing them on running speed so cut straight to 10 where they went along the track/clearing. It would have, should have paid off if I'd actually looked at my map or compass or something. Lost a couple of minutes and heaps of motivation there. Slogged to the end. Caught up to someone (not a threat) at the last and was very polite, letting her win the sprint. That was a bit stupid as one of my overall competitors was behind and running like a steam train and caught up a massive amount and beat me on the line...

Started pretty well but made a massive error leaving the second last. Ended up back at the big clearing, having lost all sense of direction and purpose. Got beaten by 11 seconds or something ridiculous after losing a couple of minutes there...

Pretty decent run. Took off without control descriptions as just ran off as soon as Eoin got back. Main mistakes were at 2, should have gone to where I expected the control NOT where I saw people standing around scratching their head, 6 (lazy route choice), 12 (not concentrating), 17 (major stuff up of the day - too busy pushing past people to actually look at the terrain).

Event: Xmas 5 Days

3 PM

Orienteering 34:39 [3] 5.21 km (6:39 / km) +83m 6:09 / km
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 14 Yellow

Managed to empty all the sand from Christmas day out of my brand new shoes. Now they are full of bog.

This would have been a good course, if it had finished 2/3 of the way through.

Made a shocker mistake to number 1, lost a good 3 minutes there. OK until 20 - I went the long way, took the scenic route to 21 just for the scenic part, took the sceni route to 24 - bad move. Scenery that is full of weeds, green, swamps and bogs is not that scenic and very slow to get through. Ran out of puff after that.
