Rogaining race 2:00:00 [2] ** 7.0 mi (17:09 / mi) +98ft 16:55 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Attack 4

Got back to hash house, turned in our card, and crashed. Slept poorly, knees burning and feet a bit uncomfortable.

It was a great time with Dad, and a learning experience. If we had avoided our strategic error, my tactical error, and stayed out at 81 till sunrise we probably would have done pretty well for Masters (there was no Veteran category).

Rogaining race 12:00:00 [2] ** 28.0 mi (25:43 / mi) +1640ft 24:22 / mi
shoes: Asics Gel Trail Attack 4

My first Rogaine after all of these years, with Dad (Mac/Hugh III). He went into it with an injured ankle, and I forgot my flashlights at the hash house. We did fine (541 points) before 9pm, then got to #81 in the dark, with one led headlamp. Spent at least 2 hours on that sucker to no joy. Humped it back to the camp and turned in, and just couldn't motivate out the next day. In retrospect we certainly should have just stayed up there until morning, got the thing, and got a few more on the way in.

It was really fun ... fuel and gear worked out GREAT. Shoes performed really well until I got them soaked and didn't stop to change my socks or add any blister treatment before the 6 mile slog back on blacktop. Silly me, live and learn. We're both looking forward to the next one ... and I need to TRAIN.
