Event: NOY 2A

Orienteering 56:48 [4] *** 5.4 km (10:31 / km)
spiked:7/11c shoes: Adidas Swoop 2

NOY 2A (Long Hard) at Brush Creek West (Moved from O'Donnelltown)
Felt fairly good physically but not too consistent with nav.
Slow to get in to the map, so wasted distance and therefore v slow time for 1 and 2. Poor route planning for 4, then failing to concentrate or use any tactic whatsoever! (distance estimation, tick off features, bearings ? nah!)
Bucked-up to hold it together for the next 6 controls,.
Not sure what happened on 10, as everything seemed to match up except the paths I expected near my anticipated creek crossing point. Creek looked a bit deep and wide after yesterdays rain, so I wasn't going to chance it and ended up running much further to next crossing point.

Apparently a previous minor event was changed to NOY league on account of land access problems. Unfortunate as I have been trying to plan ahead to make sure I'm around for these.

Note: I think the naming of courses is setting the wrong expectations.
How can a course less than 6km ever be justified as 'long'? The winner here got round in 37:15 (ish) and 3/4 of the entrants in under 60 mins. The normal IOF convention of the longest (and hardest) course being set for M21 winning time of 1 hour; which would suggest that this course was more like an M55 (plus) Course
