Orienteering 2:25:00 [3]

Possum Trot: 12.7km in 2:14.
Warmest PTrot start that I can remember (high 40s). Really good running weather; I could have gone with 2 short sleeve shirts instead of the 1 short and 1 long. I like the course and Knob Noster is a fun place to navigate. Overall, I really liked the run today.

Nav wise I was dead on sharp at all but two controls. Unfortunately, those were doozies. Simon, Swampfox and Andrei were out ahead and I was with the chasing pack leaving 4. My plan to 5 was to run up the creek to avoid the multi up-and-down of the straight route. Alas, I mistook the major junction for a minor junction and kept running on the right fork. Eventually had to correct by going up and over the big spur. I got back into the groove again and was navigating well. Around 11 another pack formed. I seemed to be generally on the front end heading into controls but I didn't have the legs to pull away. In fact, my feet were dragging and I kept tripping on things. Still, I was hanging in there until 19 when I had my biggest kaboom in a long long time. Relocating was very sloppy as well. The absurdity of the kaboom is aptly summarized by the fact that I found 21 twice but then ultimately used that as my skip. After that I jogged it in with a little less zeal. Probably had about 22-25 min of lost time.

Pretty tired and my right knee is not feeling super duper; I was protecting it the latter part of the course. It would have been beneficial to have been out about 22-25 min less for many reasons. I need to give my knee a break during yoga.

On the way to the airport we went to Arthur Bryant's for BBQ. It was very good but I have a stomach now (at the airport); not sure why.

In other news, I'm off the hook for the 24 hour erg thing. Logistics evolved such that Dec 21 became the preferred date but I'll be in Roch. that weekend. I didn't argue about the change and said to do what's best for the effort. I think it would have been interesting and fun to be part of the event but I really wasn't looking forward to the month of training on the erg. Thus, I'm 90% not at all sorry to be able to get back to outside activities.

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Pre-Possum at Knob Noster. Forest sprint. Effectively navigation by contours that was mostly straightforward except for when my aim was a little off on two controls. Running was ok. Moving better than expected but I felt heavy and bloated. Finished the 2.8k in 20:17. Beautiful day, I should add. Couldn't ask for a better afternoon of running in the woods.

Before the race we saw a B2 fly overhead. Afterward, Lisa and I drove over to Whiteman AFB to see if there was visitor/tourist center. There was not. But on the north side of the base there was a B52D stratofortress on sticks that we could walk under. That was kind of cool.

Run 30:00 [3]

20min before the erg and 10min after. Not feeling too speedy.

Erg 17:00 [3]

3 (1 / 3)
1:37.7 at 33
1:36.4 at 34
1:37.4 at 33

That's all I had the time and energy for today. Accomplished the main goal of some faster rowing so that 1:50 feels a little more pedestrian.

XC Sking 50:00 [3]
shoes: Pursuit

Easy peasy. Not many Texans out in the morning when it's in the 20s.

Lift 40:00 [3]

MP-A & B, cybex machines, PT stuff, and 1000m on the erg with 3 hard P10s.

Erg 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: C2

WU = 10
10 (3 min / 4min paddle)
16.5km total
Treadmill for 5 to CD and stretch.

Ave = 1:49.96
Std = 0.38s

Ow.

The knuckleheads at TRC have come up with a plan to try to break the 24 hr, 50+, small team (10 or less), erg world record. That works out to 48 ( 3min at 1:50ish pace), every half hour. That is a bit much for my brain to get a handle on. Of the ten I am on the faster half in the boat, but the slower half on the erg. There is only so much I can do before Dec 14, but I'll try. In sum, this is dumb.
