Orienteering 35:00 [3]

US Champs by BAOC at Cabrillo College

Sprint, 3.1k, 90 climb = 21:58

That was fun! A little confusing at times because of all the non-standardness but I don't care, I enjoyed it. My legs were really sore and slow warming up. I loosen up a bit before the start and did the best I could. I had some hesitations and pauses but no major errors. Jumping off a little wall on the way to C18 I tweaked the outside of my right knee so I was a little gimpy the last few controls.

Orienteering 1:30:00 [3]

US Champs by BAOC at Big Basin State Park.

Long, 5.8km, 390m climb: 1:20:16 on the nose.

My favorite leg was C7. I attacked from the left along a high ridge with steep slopes falling on either side. It was nice running and fun. I had one bobble on C5. Otherwise, I was mostly clean. Much more trailing running today but there was certainly enough side slope running and climbing that I do not feel like I got off easy. And there was some really steep downhills that turned going down from break time to work. On the whole, I again enjoyed the physical and nav challenges. Definitely more tired today.

My calf was tight beforehand and I was a little concerned; however, it was not a problem. Instead, my right upper thigh + hip flexor got tight and I had to be a little careful. It feels like a charlie horse now (in the evening). Hope it isn't a bother tomorrow.

Overall, I pretty pleased with my running and nav. I don't do much of either these days but I did ok. I think the Core Perf stuff and the yoga really helps me to maintain a reasonable stride; they counter act the tightness cause by the biking and rowing.

Orienteering 1:10:00 [3]

US Champs by BAOC at Big Basin State Park.

Middle, 3.4km, 230m climb: 1:00:00 on the nose.

In spite of having the preview map and reading the meet notes, my subconscious still had visions of flying along among giant redwoods, barely touching the forest floor and spiking all the controls. That is not what happened. I found the running and nav very challenging. That said, I was managing it well. Leaving control 9 I even thought to myself, I might be having a pretty good run. As it happens, I was first in M45 at the point. And so naturally I proceeded to then run right by C10, run right by it again when I decided to relocate by going back to C9. Third time I was more careful and got it. C11 was ok but then I bombed C12. The rest was fine. It's too bad those two controls cost so much time but the fact that I nailed 14 of 16 controls is not bad.

Took one good fall that has left my right side back ribs a little achy.

Row 1:00:00 [3]

Race WU
fartlek 30+

More P20s and P30s this time. The last 2 were P15s at 33-34. Good improvement from last week, which I was surprised about because my legs were toast after yoga yesterday.

Lift 25:00 [3]

Core Perf MP-A and B then then Cybex. I didn't have the time or energy for a longer or more organized workout.
