Day 2 at US Masters.
Not too bad. Took a safe route to 1 - up the trail and then across the tops of the hills since I wasn't really focused. And took forever to find a safe way down the hill towards 2 and then finding a way through the deadfall around the control. AP gave me error time there but I went exactly where I wanted. Took the high trail on the way to 3, to the bend and crawled over the stone wall that was really high. Went to the left of the line to 4 and channeled Hickory Run mountain laurel to find a way through and came out pretty much where I wanted. But then my glasses fogged, my eyes teared and the circle was busy enough that I could not sort out what I was looking for or what was in the center of the circle. Hit a trail which totally confused me because I couldn't see a trail on the map at all. But then I figured things out enough to know to just look up the hill where I had just been and easily saw the flag. I'm sure I walked right by the thing and never saw it. But a bunch of time lost there. While confident I could find the white gap on the most direct route to 6, I was totally scared by the large cliff and so decided to climb the hill and go around to the left which worked well but probably wasn't the fastest route. No troubles on the rest and even jogged bits and pieces on the trails, but not enough apparently since AP again gives me an error when I pretty much went straight to the finish.
The drive home totally exhausted me. At least the last hour on the back roads was really pretty. Lots of color and several small lakes with the trees reflected in perfectly still water. I was tempted to stop and take it all in but I just wanted to get home.
