Note

I didn't take my laptop this weekend and it was nice to not feel like I had to do "work". I checked my email a few times to make sure there was nothing urgent, but by and large I just took a vacation from being "connected". Now struggling with wanting to ignore everything that piled up and knowing that the longer I put it off the longer it will take to catch up.

orienteering 1:04:02 intensity: (54 @1) + (5:32 @2) + (10:48 @3) + (31:56 @4) + (14:52 @5) 2.85 mi (22:28 / mi) +160m 19:08 / mi
ahr:136 max:182

Another fun day in the woods. I've never had controls up on top of the hillside in the southwest corner of the park so it was fun to go there. No big mistakes just sloppy on a few and the same issue with not being able to read the map because my eyes were tearing so much.

Knee started to freeze up near the end. I guess that's a good thing since it means I was running a good bit?

Really glad I made the effort to go up for the weekend. The terrain is so much fun and not the same old stuff I could see in DVOA land every weekend.

orienteering 47:39 intensity: (8:33 @1) + (11:10 @2) + (12:48 @3) + (9:51 @4) + (5:17 @5) 1.88 mi (25:21 / mi) +47m 23:31 / mi
ahr:120 max:185

Really fun, fun course. Screwed up #1 a lot, inefficiently zigzagged my way to #4 and then left #5 in a funny direction so was confused a bit on my way to #6. But was so happy to feel like I was moving well. Had the usual trouble reading the map as my eyes were tearing the whole time because of the cold. Have not found a good solution for that.

Part of the issue on #1 (but only part) was a map printing problem. On the competition maps a stone wall came out as just a line so it looked like a cliff - on the map I used to pick up controls it was a stone wall. Seeing the stone wall in the terrain where there wasn't one mapped had me second guessing where I was for a bit.

map hiking 44:47 intensity: (1:37 @1) + (13:41 @2) + (29:29 @3) 1.28 mi (34:59 / mi) +33m 32:25 / mi
ahr:112 max:129

Picking up some WY controls.

Early morning hike with Abby and Simon. Met them at Valley Green. Great company and really nice day for a hike.

Got tired near the very end up the hill home; might be time to start doing longer hikes and hill workouts.

running 43:45 intensity: (24 @1) + (22:36 @2) + (4:44 @3) + (14:21 @4) + (1:40 @5) 2.72 mi (16:05 / mi) +84m 14:40 / mi
ahr:118 max:145

Hiked down to the drive then ran 1/2 a mile towards the covered bridge, walked a bit, then ran the 1/2 mile back and hiked back home. Didn't feel anywhere near as awful as I thought it was going to so that was a nice surprise.

strength & stretching 1:00:00 [3]

Class at the gym; used 5lb weights for a few things but 2.5 for most. It was a good decision.

Then walked to the voting place in the neighborhood and voted. Used the new computerized machines that also print a backup copy. Have no idea if they are any better for preventing fraud but it was easy to use. The computer screen had large print so didn't even need my reading glasses which I did remember to bring.
