orienteering 35:46 [4]

Training at Fatlands. Designed an exercise with 6 controls south of a big berm and 6 north and a couple courses that crossed back and forth once, four times or 7 times. Alison and I did the 4 cross version. About 10 folks showed up. It did what I wanted - got a little navigational practice and a little running in the terrain practice. Did pretty well but definitely room for improvement. Eric W. helped hang which was good since this way I only had seen half the controls and he graciously hung the ones that were further away from the berm so required a tad more navigation.

Hanging controls for the training. Picked a few control locations that looked good on paper but were pretty weak in the terrain. Good practice. Hung using a 1:5000 map and ran on a 1:10000.

Note

Tried something new with epunching. Had folks download into a master station unconnected to a computer. When I got home I was able to read the master station into the event and produce results. Very cool - means that epunching for training is very doable.

TNT - track workout with Clem and Tom

Felt like the first time in weeks (feels like months but it's probably not that long) that I've been able to do anything beyond shuffle around the track. Warmer weather? Built the iron back up? Didn't let anyone suck me into starting too fast? Who knows. Did 2 laps while I decided what to do, then 10 where I'd sprint the far straightaway and recover the rest of the way around, then 1 lap cool down. Averaged about 10 minute pace.

Time includes a little stretching, and the walks to and from the track to the cars, which to me is all part of the workout. :)

running 54:00 [3]

TNT - with Sandy, Karl, Greg

3 miles on the drive at about 10:15 pace on average plus the down and up. Started slowly and picked it up near the end. I actually enjoyed this workout which I haven't been able to say for quite a while.

Yoga/Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Good class - lots of strength stuff. We were relegated to a raquetball court which sounds awful, but gives us walls to use so we did lots of poses that are tough to balance but we could cheat and use the wall. Worked on some headstand and forearm stand poses (with feet on the wall). After class did some handstands which was fun and worked on backbends which I like to work on by walking down the wall backwards instaed of pushing up from the ground - easier on the knees.
