US Classic Champs Day 2

Oh man was this a lot of fun! I really enjoyed the course and thought that the course setter did a good job on setting challenging legs even when the terrain was pretty basic. Lots of compass legs that made me nervous, but I did well on all of the controls except for 2 and 10. On two I lost about a min because I saw a hill which I thought was my knot-knoll running on a compass up the bland hillside. Got to the hill and realized it was too big, looked around and figured I was too high to the left. Corrected and saw my control. Number 10 was unfortunate because I had everything under control on the way to 10 and when I got close I didn't see the rockpile I wanted to see and second guessed myself. Went off to the right, too far and had to correct, but it took me a moment to relocate. Lost 4 minutes there. Darn! Would have been a great race without this control. Still glad to nab a win by 2 seconds and the overall US Champs win too!

US Classic Champs- Day 1

A long and physically hard course. I had a good run, only real time loss was to number 8, lost 1 min there. Otherwise just had a steady pace and stayed patient during the whole course, drinking at all opportunities and pushing the pace at the end. Wasn't sure if I was fast enough to do well, but I only lost 1 minute to the leader and was well ahead of my US Champs eligible competitors. I was happy to find a pace which was do-able and still left some energy to orienteer well. In the open terrain you can really push too hard and get stupid ;-)

Running at Turquoises Lake near Leadville. Beautiful!!! So lovely here.

strength 15:00 [1]

At our campsite. Mosquitoes were a pain, so 15 min was all I could handle.
