Roller skiing (Rte 103) 30:00 [2] 2.65 mi (11:19 / mi)
Plan was for easy ski on a beautiful day before the 24 hr regaine tomorrow. Installed new bearings on one of the wheels and glued the pole tips on at last.
Nice loose run down 103 for a couple miles, and apparently the double nuts worked off the axle shaft. A little dragging noise for a couple hundred meters, and then I see the front wheel of my right ski go sailing across the road. Oh shit! Then the frame digs into the asphalt and down I go.
Started walking back and found the axle bolt 200 m back. Amazing the wheel had stayed on that long with no axle. Stuck it back in and gingerly double poled back to the car. Never did spot the nuts.
Stopped on the way home and got a nyloc self-locking nut and some loctite to secure the sucker. Hardware clerk commented on the fresh blood on my knee, but doesn't hurt nearly as much as the R wrist, which seems sprained.
