Skate Ski (Mountain Meadows) 1:30:00 [3] 17.0 km (5:18 / km)

Cover thin on the trails. Ended up skiing the lake, which was ok until the temp hit 45F and the snow turned to slush and puddles on top of the ice. A bit of rain, too. Chased by Greg, who kept making me use my poles more.

Cross Training (Downhill skiing Okemo) 2:30:00 [2] +-7500m

Day of downhill with Greg and Dan. Crowded, some icy spots, typical holidays. Managed to avoid almost all the lift lines, but did whack a couple of ankle-biters who skied in front of me.

Wednesday Dec 29, 2004 #

Skate Ski (Grafton Ponds) 1:46:00 [4] 24.0 km (4:25 / km)

20 laps around the man-made snow at Grafton. Chasing Greg, but he left me on the hills.

Hiking (Mt Monadnock) 3:20:00 [3] 4.0 mi (50:00 / mi) +550m 35:02 / mi

Climbing afternoon with Greg and Dan. Had hike and summit to ourselves. Up White Cross trail with a long section of cascading water ice that was great for cramponing. Down White Dot which had more rock and not as much ice. Temp in the teens, but not much wind -- a fun day.
Two of the eight people we met all day were our former neighbors from Maryland -- up visiting family in NH.

Skate Ski (Trapp Family Lodge) 3:30:00 [3] 25.0 km (8:24 / km) +600m 7:30 / km

Day trip with Greg, Dan and Ruthie. Lots of grooming and 4" new snow made the conditions pretty good after the rain and freeze last week. Windy and cold 14F. Did two laps past the sugar cabin and around the back of the area. All climbing to the cabin and then a fast descent back to base. Ruthie tried skating for the first time and found the skis ok, but the boots too soft. Will have to get proper skate boots. Stuck with it all afternoon on the trail around the base lodge, after a morning classic loop with us.

Road Running (Chester) 45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)

Xmas run with Greg and Dan. Lost a bit of time on the stream section of Cummings Rd, which is iced over and would be better wearing crampons.
Greg made it in today after getting stuck in DC for 24 hours. United cancelled his connecting flight yesterday morning due to the storm in (DC?)(Albany?), which was actually the day before.

Road Running (Cummins Rd) 20:00 [3] 2.2 mi (9:05 / mi)

Run with Dan and Casey. Casey hasn't figured out she's supposed to run in a straight line when she's on a leash...

Off Trail Running (Boulder Hill) 40:00 [3] 1.5 mi (26:40 / mi)

Then up to the top of the hill. Mix of frozen ground, thin crust and glare ice. Footing not too good.

Weight Training (Wall wgts) 20:00 [4]

3 sets x 50

Skate Ski (Prospect Mtn) 2:00:00 [3] 22.0 km (5:27 / km)

Skate skiing at Prospect with Dan. Conditions ok, but still thin. Trails packed and groomed. Snow was soft; temp 35F. Had waxed for 10-20F (LF6), so skis were slow. Felt good to get on the snow and start to refresh muscle memory.

Tuesday Dec 21, 2004 #

Skate Ski 25:00 [1] 2.0 km (12:30 / km)

Lap around the fields and Pines to check snow depth. Mostly 2-4"; not quite enough. Dan tried it this morning, so I had to give it a go, too. Then crushed the track, snow and grass with the Bombi to start building base.
Pruned a trail straight up from the logging road to the ridgeline. Dan wants to do some tele skiing, so this ought to give him a drop to work on.

Sunday Dec 19, 2004 #

Road Running (Cummings Rd) 20:00 [3] 2.2 mi (9:05 / mi)

Up the hillside with Casey.

Saturday Dec 18, 2004 #

Road Running (Popple Dungeon) 1:51:00 [3] 10.9 mi (10:11 / mi)

Thru Chester and over Dodge Rd to Popple Dungeon. Back to Grafton Rd and home. Dodge Rd appears posted, but is actually a Cl 4 town road and therefore open, if not maintained. Would be interesting to drive -- drops over a couple ledges. Two inches of snow.

Sunday Dec 5, 2004 #

Road Running (Chester+) 1:21:00 [3] 8.6 mi (9:25 / mi)

Thru Chester and out up Dodge Rd. Tried to go on to Popple Dungeon, but dirt road deteriorates and is posted at the top of the ridge. Will have to check with the Village to see if I can still follow the right-of-way.
