Bobbled 2 by quite a bit, and was forgetting that this was a race. Nice wipeout on the way to 3, but ankle survived. Sarted daydreaming on way to 4, but decided I hadn't gone far enough and just kept going. Right decision. Too far left leaving 4 so took the trail for a while. Checked control description and stayed low. For 6 turned off trail too early, but kissy passed me right then so showed me the control. Took off on the wrong trail for a while on the way to 8 (lost 1 minute). Trail, swamp, around cliffs, and just a bit to the left on 9. Slow through the green to 10, right hand trail and then left to 11. I think I should have gone straight from the trail junction. Hesitant to 12, but found it all right. Straight to 13, trail would have been faster. Way too much energy left for the runin.

Total guess on time and distance. Did first 15 controls on Carp ridge map, then Barrens 17 to finish, start to 16, then rest of Carp Ridge. Very wet out there. Some very poor route choices as swampy areas were much wetter then the last time I was on these maps. Intermittent rain throughout the day. I have had enough of the rain, ready for some dry days.

Time and distance are estimates, including trip from finish back to the car. Bailed out on way from 2-3 because of hail storm. Cleared up just as I got to the start, so I started over. Struggled on some of the compass only legs. No problems on the contours only legs. Corridor was fun. Got rained on a lot, and didn't have a hat, so map reading was tough. I made a lot of big errors, lacked focus.

Wednesday: March Highlands, training session # 5
Thursday: Barrens, trainging session #1, #2
Friday: model map, easy (and move camp to Arnprior)

Was very careful in places because the rain made it very slippery and hard to see. Still struggle with this map. Will try to go a little faster tomorrow if my knee is up to it.

Note

As suspected, electrical issue with my car. Apparently some critters were having a little feast on the wiring. I should get the car back this afternoon. Thankfully the issue appeared when I was still at the campground and not on the highway.

Bummer. Went to leave camp site to head to meet site, and several indicator lights turned on. The wrench, ABS, brake, parking brake for sure. Brakes were barely working at 10kph. Parked car, joined CAA and called AAA. So no middle race for me today.

Of course, nobody is open on Sunday, so got a tow to a Ford dealer in Rochester and a room at the quality inn. They get bonus marks for service. Told me where I could go for dinner and will drive me! Also will drive me to the dealership if they don't have a shuttle.
