When I put on my shoes, I realized that my foot was too sore to do any running. So took off my ankle braces and taped my ankles with duct tape. It's been years (20+?) since I have run with tape instead of ankle braces. It didn't feel very secure, so was cautious.

1. Slow as Garmin found satellites, tried to reset clock on the run and fell down hard.

2. Very slow going up.

3. Much hesitation from far out, trying to figure out exactly where I was trying to end up while I could see the layout. Since I ended up going exactly where I initially thought I should, I wasted a lot of time here.

4. Not sure how I headed off in the wrong direction from the rootstock. Pretty quickly knew things weren't right, but took a while to make sense out of it.

5. Very confused leaving the control so decide to take the road route to 5 while I tried to straighten out my mind.

6. Well, I planned to go straight. But I am rarely successful at that. This terrain is so forgiving though. Easy to correct.

7. don't know when I changed my mind about going more or less straight.
On the way into the control intentionally went north of the control to pinpoint my location.

8. Was going to go straight, but my legs were getting torn up so went up to the trail. Would have made more sense to go the other way around the green but knew (from the previous day) that the boundary was far from clear, so played it safe.

9. Just straight at it.

10. Just couldn't bear the thought of a road run. Better execution and I don't think it would have cost me any time. The map at the first road loop really threw me off. A number of vehicles in the parking lot inside the loop. Wouldn't have bothered me except that I was nowhere near where I had planned on being. I seem to have taken a 90 degree turn without realizing it.

11. Just tired. Straight at it.

Foot was hurting, and couldn't seem to block that out, though I usually can so ran less than I would have liked to. Way hotter than I like.

1. Just kept going up. Got caught by a young woman at the control - but it turns out it wasn't her control.

2. Out to road. In retrospect should have just gone straight. 3 meter contours make the hills look much bigger than they are.

3. No idea why I went along the trail at the top of the hill. but that explains why I ended up further down than intended. The 4 concrete pillars certainly told me exactly where I was though.

4. Kept losing the trail on the start of the leg. Spotted the water from about 50m away. Looks like straight would have been much better.

5. Was a little higher than I thought on approach. A lot of hesitation near the circle. Should have more confidence. Track on map is misleading; the lowest part of my route is at the control.

6. Decided the attack from above would be pretty obvious and it was, but should have gone straighter.

7. Decided to go around to avoid climb and attack from above. So wide open I could easily see how far I had come.

8. That's a straight line by my standards. Managed to avoid too much distraction from other runners.

9. should have gone straighter or stayed up longer.
