route
was pretty sick - should be pleased that I managed to finish instead of disappointed in my result. Woke up with a high fever, which didn't clear up before the race. Wasn't even sure I was going to make it to the start.
1) slow but reasonable until I got there and couldn't see the flag - which was clearly visible about 10m away. Lost about a minute just standing there.
2) mental lapse - should have paid more attention to distance - Knew I was to the east of the control, so why did I go further east?
3) first part of the route was very slow going - should have gone around that area, but mostly well executed
4) feeling pretty sick, but kept going slowly, but got there fine
5) this could have truly been a disaster - at some point realized i didn't know where i was, my thumb wasn't anywhere reasonable on the map - i had no idea how long it had been since control 4, no idea what my plan might have been! so, walked east trying to relocate - found a trail - hoping it was one of the trails between 4 and 5, but no idea if it was the one to the north or south of the line. when i saw the cliff at the edge of the swamp i had great hope that i knew where i was - and apparently i did
6) pretty good till i got to the swamp in the circle and then got confused again - blaming this on the fever
7) pretty straight forward
8) no real plan except to relocate off the trail after missing the control - a better plan could have saved 10 minutes or so, but i really wasn't thinking clearly
9) the steep part was really slow - would have been better to retrace my steps and go around this. at least i had a plan - hit the creek, follow it to the trail, trail to next creek and down to control - worked well
10) was too high, so struggled a bit in green - trail might have been a better option
11) in control!
12) distracted by others and took a pretty roundabout route
13, finish) - just ran
was still feeling pretty rough and spent a long time deciding if i was well enough to drive - had a little nap and then drove - smarter decision would have been to get a room for the night
