Orienteering 1:50:00 [3]

Ontario Champs Long Men’s elite. Man did i ever enjoy this course and terrain. Even though the knee was sore from CP13 to 29 I had a smile on my face because the orienteering was that good! longest run since July but i’ll be sore tmrw.

*oh and I wore a SI-stick safety strap and the strap got caught on a sampling and broke and my SI flung off my hand again. only happened 4 times ever for me and twice in two days. Yikes.

Thanks Mark for an awesome weekend. The retro 80’s map layout was a nice way to honour the history of this area. Can’t wait to race here again soon.

**Looking at the split times it is very clear where I started to slow down (CP15, knee started hurting at CP13). On the first half of today’s course I was 5 minutes behind Erik Kemp (43' vs 48'). On the second half I was 17.5 minutes behind (43.5' vs. 61'). Those splits times match the pain and fatigue I was feeling pretty well. ;-)

Orienteering 40:00 [3]

Ontario Champs middle distance at Arkell Hills. I’ve been looking forward to this race for a long time and the terrain and course didn’t disappoint. So much fun and a challenging start. After last weekends painful jog with AG! i decided to listen to AG! and roll and stretch and wow did I feel good warming up and running today. Pushed hard and navigated well and only made about 20-30s of mistakes. Was in the top 3-5 in elite men’s race about 2/3rds of the way through the race but then while running down a hill i ran into a sapling and my SI stick flew off my hand. Three minutes of crawling on my hands and knees with two people helping for a bit including a club mate I decided to just run the rest of the race and take the DSQ. So disappointed in that result. Jogged back out afterwards and after 10 minutes of searching I found the SI. So it will be fun to compare splits up to losing it.

Despite the bad luck I really enjoyed this race. Good motivation to get into orienteering shape for Jukola in 7.5 months. Anybody want to for a Canadian Team or teams? How about Team Canada Old Skool vs Team Canada Millenials?

Thanks Mark for a great race. Congrats to the Franssons on beating the Wadd Squad due to my DQ but if I hadn’t lost SI it would have been WaddSquad domination. ;-)

Another foggy rail trail ride with Tarno. Not sure I've seen the trail trail this slick before. In two days of rail trail use this week we only saw one person and that person was running on a different adjancent trail. It was probably Trav
