Running race 1:23:00 [4] 13.17 mi (6:18 / mi) +65m 6:12 / mi
Portland Half Marathon
Still not as large as the Birkie or anything, but a lot of people! Luckily was in the A wave and so starting really wasn't a problem. But seeing just a mass of people when the course double-backed on itself several times was impressive.
I came in 2nd woman in a time of just around 1:23 (not sure if chip times are posted yet, but should be very close to that). I was only 12s behind, but that was totally an unclosable gap over the last few miles. It looked like much further! I had contact and chatted with her after the big downhill and then again around mile 7. But when she sped up after that, I didn't follow, feeling pushed by the 6:20ish pace. And she must have just gained a few seconds every mile after.
I only really wanted the race to end with about 2 miles to go, but still, no huge slow-down, which is definitely nice. So many people were excited to see the first women go by, and tons were also cheering for me wearing my brand-new Reed singlet. The college doesn't have any NCAA sports, but a bunch of students, staff and faculty doing running stuff now and again. Will have to introduce the group to orienteering...
