Normal core, back to 18 knee push-ups!

XC skiing 30:00 [1] 1.64 mi (18:18 / mi) +60m 16:26 / mi
ahr:77 max:99

Sylvia's Ford Sayre practice with Martin on my back (no poles classic skiing).

We actually really skied for the first time! We did the Girl Brook loop out to the far field and back, just cutting off one loop at the far field. We also adopted two kindergarten boys who had strayed with our girls at the beginning. A great trek!! And Martin did great hanging out in the backpack.

XC skiing 11:21 intensity: (11:00 @1) + (21 @2) 0.56 mi (20:16 / mi) +16m 18:36 / mi
ahr:105 max:127 rhr:47

Pre-skiing the course - first just did the kiddo 1k course, then Alex mentioned that the grown-up/highschool race had an extra 0.5k. Rose and I found that on a second loop!

Super fun little things to make it a terrain race - one quite fun woods loop, some slalom poles to dodge, optional jumps and right at the end, a set of hay bales to get over.

XC skiing race 20:25 intensity: (2:27 @1) + (17:58 @2) 3.54 mi (5:46 / mi) +74m 5:25 / mi
ahr:132 max:146

The race! Super-fun, enjoyed it more than I thought I would even. Very glad it was single-person interval start as it would have been tough to squish onto the woods loop if not!

Felt pretty ok if not super-strong on the hills. Did most of the terrain stuff pretty efficiently, except for woods loop second lap where I was behind someone slower. I did the jumps as long as I had spectators for them, gotta keep the crowd happy =)

Decided to do it on my ski-o skis, which have been used *a lot* this winter and waxed very little. But, liquid paraffin to the rescue! Threw on some Rode Violet right before racing, brushed it out about the minimum 15 min later and it didn't seem that bad!

Thanks to Alex + the others who made a fun race happen!

*Finally* back home.

Thurs: wake up, pack up & clean VRBO, Pima Air & Space Museum (cool!), drive, Casa Grande National Monument (also cool!), drive, playground in Tempe, oh, flight is delayed 30 min, no 1h, no 3h - return car, airport - oh, flight is now delayed 6h, eek! book an airport hotel, Lyft, sleep, oh, flight is canceled (around midnight) - attempt to rebook, fail, find American flights to Burlington, book those, sleep more.

Fri: wake up, Tom works a bit, kids TV a bit, walk to the airport for some final AZ warmth, fly to DCA, dinner, fly to BTV, arrive too late to pick up rental car, there are no Lyfts, so old-school taxi to Stephi's house where we stay in the basement to hopefully have zero risk of transmitting Covid.

Sat: wake up (good sleep!), test everyone for Covid, uniformly neg (yay!), Steph drives me, masked, to airport to pick up rental car, they give me a Tesla (signed up for "dealer's choice"), drive Tesla in 5 deg F, Tesla plummets through miles at that temp, need to recharge in West Leb, luckily T+S can food shop at the same time, then final to NH home, lunch, then gear up to return Tesla to Manchester airport, return.

Then *finally* get this run in. There was not much opportunity to work out these days. Happy to be home, not be sick (hopefully maintains!), but that was a lot. In some ways, we got better sleep than the planned-on red eye, so there was a silver lining...

Strength 6:38 intensity: (6:37 @0) + (1 @3)
ahr:80 max:100 rhr:49

A little strength outside while the kiddos played in the bluster.

Running 11:38 intensity: (23 @0) + (6:21 @1) + (4:54 @2) 1.1 mi (10:35 / mi) +9m 10:19 / mi
ahr:122 max:136 shoes: HOKA Challenger ATR 6

Warm up jog over to U of A with Alli and Jan.

Orienteering 23:44 intensity: (11 @0) + (2:21 @1) + (18:44 @2) + (2:28 @3) 2.74 mi (8:40 / mi)
ahr:139 max:156 shoes: HOKA Challenger ATR 6

Successful meetup with Cristina then out for last year's "A" sprint course on campus. Tried to think about pushing the pace, but not sure my legs had it in them after three days of racing, felt pretty flat. Caught out by one major thing and one minor thing and some updated construction.

Running 4:03 intensity: (2 @0) + (2:26 @1) + (1:35 @2) 0.42 mi (9:39 / mi)
ahr:122 max:143 shoes: HOKA Challenger ATR 6

Over to start of corridor-O.

Orienteering 14:08 intensity: (11:49 @2) + (2:19 @3) 1.41 mi (10:01 / mi)
ahr:145 max:153 shoes: HOKA Challenger ATR 6

Corridor-O. Don't think I'd ever done a corridor-O on a sprint map before. It was fun, did quite slowly.

Running 10:11 intensity: (6 @1) + (7:46 @2) + (2:19 @3) 1.11 mi (9:11 / mi)
ahr:146 max:156 shoes: HOKA Challenger ATR 6

Cool down back to the house. Stopped early, was feeling tired.

Ironwood training, advanced course.

Two biggish mistakes, but it also seemed like I lost lots of time just not pushing the running pace out there... I think I'd be able to do a bit better with this terrain on a second go, knowing a bit more about it. Two cholla extractions, one time just 4 thorns the second time a whole pod.

ahr:156 max:180 rhr:53

Cholla Chaser! Won it, thanks really to my handicap of needing to only get 5 controls in the box (out of 7). Not sure I took the best 5, but I was 5th overall out of the box, so not bad - did orienteer pretty cleanly through that section. Did ok with the second part (shared among all) too, except choosing to go through a slot canyon-y thing to 6 which was filled with spiky vegetation - the high route was apparently also pretty spiky, but Boris made up about a minute on me with that route, so do think it was faster!

Made it to SWSW! (Some doubt when Budget ran out of cars from PHX Sat night....)

But not quite in time for the mass start, so started about 35 late and started seeing people at #4. Definitely felt winded so was happy to here at the finish that we were at 5000 or so feet! No big mistakes, but was almost off to 1 and 2, felt a little lucky to see a glimpse of the flags!
