Terrain (Grass) 27:00 [2]
(injured)

Warmup. Start was delayed a few minutes while they sorted out some changes in the course. I was happy to have the extra time to jog because it was frosty.

Terrain race (Grass) 17:30 [4] 2.6 mi (6:44 / mi)
(injured)

Bubba XC at Creve Coeur Lake Park. Much tougher course than the last one. More hills and more obstacles. They had the overpass out today (about 2.5m high - you run up steps one side, then down a really steep ramp on the other; the course loops around to go back underneath it). Also a better field this round. Therefore, I ran a lot harder, but I still don't give it a 5 because I was alone in the last half mile, so I didn't have to kick. Fifth overall, 1st M40.

Orienteering race (Woods) 1:07:45 [3] *** 7.5 km (9:02 / km) +300m 7:32 / km
12c (injured)

Then I blasted out to Meramec (1:15) for the SLOC meet. With David off at USARA Nats, my dead legs from the morning were less of a liability. Granted, Meramec isn't exactly the toughest navigation going, but my nav was really on today. Two of my route choices could have been better, but execution was as good as I've done, ever. 1st on Red.

You know it's been a bad stretch for injuries when, upon telling your 5-year-old that you're going to a race, her first response is, "Maybe you shouldn't hurt yourself this time." Got through both races OK, but my pennance for showing up late for the O-meet was to pick up controls. Had to push a bit harder than usual since we were running out of daylight. Stepped in a hole and went down pretty hard, hitting my left knees on a rock. It's a bit swollen, but it will be fine. As for the existing injuries, the rib is basically better (although it's technically not healed for two more weeks), the shoulder is fully usable, but it does hurt.

Old Red course at Cuivre River (1:15) plus a short bit of trail running to/from the north parking area. Ran easy. Tried to think about the visibility of features along the route (Tero's full-speed, no mistakes method). Not really a particuarly productive exercise at CR, since one can always run a ridgeline if one wants to. Nav was more accurate than it has been; but sadly that's not saying much these days.

Easy road run to finish off the recovery week.

Running (Road) 40:00 [3]
weight:166lbs (injured)

3mi@20. Legs aren't all the way back from all the trail running last weekend, but with two races on Sunday this was the only chance to slide in a quality workout. Backed the pace off 10s/mi from normal tempo.

Cycling (Trail) 1:28:00 [2]

Powerline to CC Lake and a lap on the new trail. Back in the dark.

(injured) (rest day)

Slept surprisngly well last night, albeit only for six hours. Got up at 4:30 as usual and, after a light breakfast, headed to the polls. Got there at 5:15 which made me the fifth person in line. Made some progress through The Kite Runner while waiting for things to open. Excellent book, but I might put it down. Just not themes that are connecting with me right now. Anyway, by 6:15 I had voted and was on my way to work, leaving a REALLY FULL school gym behind me.

Went for a walk at lunchtime. I brought running gear to work, but I think I'll let things heal up for another day.

I am really beat to hell. Shoulder is healing up nicely. Have full range of motion in front. Very difficult to reach backwards.
