Orienteering (Woods) 4:08:00 [3]
Dave Frei, Rob Wagnon and I went down to S-F (1:15) to pick up controls from the SLOC meet 2 weeks ago (that we missed due to out of town meets). 43 controls in all. We alternated with one person navigating to the control while the other two followed. Then the followers could offer disparaging remarks about route and execution while the navigator was folding up the control and stuffing into his pack.
Rob got sick of this drill after 3 hours so Dave and I finished up (comments got considerably more pointed from then on). Wound up navigating 17 legs. I ran most of them fairly hard, but loafed when the other two were up front. ST=639.
Note
Between the rain Saturday and the swollen streams today, my feet were wet for all of the training. I had taped them early Saturday morning in anticipation of the runs. I took the tape off this afternoon and they are in fairly good shape. I think the attention I've been paying to foot care is paying off.
The drill is this:
every night - foot massage.
2-3 times a week - soak soles of feet in alcohol for 20 minutes.
once a week - grind off any excess callous with the Dremel sander.
The taping procedure is:
Soak feet in alcohol for a few minutes to get rid of any crud on the bottom.
Spray with Tuf Skin and let dry.
Apply duct tape to the balls of feet and trim tape back from the toes. Tape goes around the side of the foot and about half an inch onto the top on both sides.
Apply duct tape to back of heel - a fairly small piece gets the job done here.
Apply powder to negate any residual stickiness.
It seems to be working well. If AZ is as wet as they are predicting, it will be quite the test (I've never made it through 24 hours without blisters).
