Running with a map at Clinton Rockcrusher. A good bit of kartlek. Today was the first time this season where the woods are pleasant enough to just run a course without worrying about the thickness. Some areas are still thick, but they are passable. I spend a good 40 minutes of this running off trail. I stepped on a thorn but it only went maybe 1/8 inch into my foot.

Also did 3 x short (5+ minute) courses. Fun. Fell down once. Slipped on the rocks a couple of times. I should have had the shoes with spikes given the rain.

On the river trails. I felt a few rain drops.

I did a short MTBO course. It included the sandy section of the trail (which is extra sandy these days) and a resulting fall when I slipped some of the sand and didn't quite unclip in time.

Work commute. Legs felt tired in the morning.

Poking around at Dad Perry to check a few things on the map before the next meet. It is a neat little area (roughly 400 x 400 meters). Mary's course setter and her long course is some 3.9 km. That's a lot of orienteering in a little area.

On the river trail. I threw in 3 x 5 minutes at an honest effort. It felt mostly good. Breathing was a chore.

MTB on the river trails after pumping up my tires. I was dressed for running more than biking and the sun was going down. I was a bit chilly by the end. I used my bike light for the last ten minutes or so.

After I finished a guy who'd passed me earlier said he'd been trying to catch me near the end but that I was going fast. I don't think I'd ever heard someone say I was riding a MTB fast! I'm sure it was a combination of working hard to stay warm and being able to go faster than the guy who was trying to catch me because I had a light and he didn't.

Oh yeah, river was a bit high and quite pretty:

Work commute. I felt super strong on the Mississippi hill on the way home. I wonder if that's what it feels like for people who are doping. It was actually a stiff tail wind.

Running around on trails on West Campus. I found another permanent O' marker (set out by the KU ROTC?). Fun.

Work commute. Legs a bit tired from yesterday and I didn't sleep well. Taking it easy.

Today was the first sub 32F commute of the season. It felt nice.

Kartlek at Clinton Rockcrusher. I stuck mostly to trails because the woods are still a bit junky. I kept the pace easy but was tired by the end (and unexpectedly tired later in the day).

I woke up in the middle of the night and decided that if I woke up around 6-6:30, I'd run the Sand Rat. I woke up at 7:45 (too late to get up and make it for the 8 a.m. close of registration). It might have been fun to run, but it wasn't too bad to sleep a bit late.
